Reborn to Watch Him Regret Choosing My Twin Chapter 05

Knowing I was meeting Grey at noon, Dr. Evans practically shoved me out the door.

I walked out clutching the medication, my mind reeling the whole way.

When I got home, my mom had gone back to sleep. My dad and Sterling had left for their offices.

Mira sat on the sofa, like she’d been waiting for me.

The second she saw the bag in my hand, her face twisted. She lunged, trying to snatch it.

I knew her moves too well. I stepped back and dodged.

“This isn’t for Sterling.”

I said it before she could speak. I didn’t need her to open her mouth to know exactly what she was thinking.

She shot me a glare. “You wouldn’t dare.”

She sank back onto the sofa, leaning against the armrest, eyeing me with a warning.

“Stay away from your brother-in-law. Unless you want everyone around you to know you’re the kind of bitch who goes after her sister’s husband.”

Her face twisted as she said it. I’d seen this face in the mirror a thousand times.

But right now, it just looked ugly.

She’s been like this since we were kids. Every time no one else was watching.

I carried the medication into the kitchen and set it down on the counter.

“You don’t have to be so afraid of me. You already married him. I’m not interested in someone else’s leftovers.”

A vase shattered behind me.

I ignored it. I pulled out the prescription bottle and set it on the counter.

Three hours until he arrived. I had to get this done. One bottle, no need to wrap much.

By noon, an engine hummed outside. A Rolls-Royce pulled up to the door. The first thing I saw were polished leather shoes, gleaming like mirrors.

I was pretty sure I could see my reflection in them.

The man attached to them had legs that went on forever. Every stride made his trousers pull clean lines over his thighs. The kind of effortless power that looked better than a professional leg model.

Broad shoulders. Narrow waist. Sharp brows cutting into his temples. Deep-set eyes with that naturally dismissive stare. Exactly the same as when we were kids.

Every hair was in perfect place. I couldn’t guess how much product he’d used.

My dad put on his elder-of-the-family act and exchanged pleasantries.

Grey nodded politely and signaled his assistant to bring out the gifts. My dad’s grin stretched ear to ear. His satisfaction practically radiated.

“Come in, come in. Sit and talk. Lunch is just about ready.”

Grey nodded with a smile. As he passed me, he stopped.

“This is for you.”

I looked at the jewelry box in his hand. The case was a little aged. I opened it. Inside lay an amethyst and diamond heirloom necklace.

“My mother picked it out herself. It’s what my grandmother gave her on her wedding day. She said a young woman would prefer this kind of purple.”

Suddenly, the box felt scorching hot in my hands.

He seemed to think I misunderstood and pulled out another box.

“There’s a green one too. She said pretty isn’t enough. She wanted to show sincerity and intent.”

When I still didn’t take it, he frowned. Anyone else would’ve thought he was annoyed. But somehow, I caught something else underneath. Nervousness. A little hurt.

I sighed. I didn’t want to embarrass him in front of everyone. I took them.

Staring at the far more precious piece, I felt like I was holding a mansion in my hands.

My dad nodded with satisfaction.

“Purple really does suit a young woman. Bring it over later. Let your sister take a look too.”

My grip on the jewelry box tightened.

Grey looked at my dad. He was tall. When he looked down, the air went cold.

“Mr. Nash. These pieces are worth more than you can imagine. My mother picked them out specifically for her future daughter-in-law. As long as Clara’s happy with them, that’s all I care about. I’d hate to see them get damaged, or mishandled by… the wrong hands. Or worse—stolen.”

His words were brutal. Not “taken.” Not “borrowed.” He used the ugliest word: stolen.

My dad’s face went dark.

The Grant family’s business had exploded over the years. They were at the top now.

But still riding the title of potential father-in-law, my dad tried to defend Mira.

“Mira is a good kid. Why on earth would she steal from her own sister?”

A cold laugh cut the air. “She already stole a man. You think jewelry’s beneath her?”

I looked up at him. Our eyes met. I realized his gaze had never left me.

I didn’t know where to look.

My dad’s expression went fully storm-dark. He said nothing and stalked off ahead.

Grey kept his eternal ice-king face. We walked side by side down the path, our shadows brushing now and then. I could feel how tense he was.

Remembering what he’d just done, I couldn’t resist teasing. “Talking to him like that. Aren’t you worried he’ll turn around and refuse to let me marry you?”

He turned to look at me. Dead serious.

“You’re the one who needs to be willing.”

He pressed his lips together, a little uncertain.

“Look, I didn’t mean to go off like that. But he plays favorites, and honestly? He’s blind. I just wanted to remind him what he’s been ignoring.”

“Are you upset with me?”

He rambled out a whole string of explanations. I looked down and couldn’t stop the corner of my mouth from curving up.

“No.”

Beside me, his shoulders dropped in relief. His steps went light.

At the dining table, my mom piled food onto his plate. My dad kept his face frozen, not a word.

Mira ate quietly, stealing glances at Grey beside me.

“Grey, what brings you by so suddenly?”

He paused mid-reach, a piece of shrimp destined for my plate.

“First of all, we’re not on a first-name basis. It’s Grey Grant, or Mr. Grant to you.”

Mira’s face flooded with heat and humiliation.

“Second. I’m here today to discuss marriage arrangements with Clara.”

“What marriage?”

The sharp click of leather shoes echoed from the front door.

Everyone turned. Sterling stood there in a full suit. He hadn’t even taken off his glasses.

His gaze locked onto Grey. Every word was clipped.

“Your marriage to who?”
