Reborn to Clear My Name Chapter 04

Then Isabelle leaned close to my earpiece and shouted into the microphone, “Six.”

I had no time to listen to her.

I bent down, grabbed the backup sniper rifle she’d thrown on the ground, and raised it to my shoulder.

She tried to throw herself at me again.

“Five.”

I sidestepped. She stumbled past me.

Using the momentum, I kicked her to the ground, pulled out my backup cuffs, and secured her hands behind her back.

“It’s fine. The guy won’t dare to press it…”

Gianni was still offering his expert analysis over the channel.

I didn’t want to hear it anymore. I shouted straight into my earpiece.

“Operation is a go. Entry team, draw his fire. I’ll take out the remote.”

“Four.”

The next second, the windows shattered as the entry team stormed the room.

The kidnapper’s attention snapped toward them, his finger moving to the detonation button.

That was the moment.

I held my breath, locked onto his hand, and pulled the trigger.

The shot rang out. The hand holding the remote exploded, and the device shattered with it.

He immediately reached for the handgun at his waist, but the entry team leader shot his other hand before he could fire on the hostage.

The leader lunged forward, pinning him to the ground and subduing him completely.

The rest of the team rushed the hostage to safety.

I stood on the roof, the tightness in my chest finally starting to ease.

Then Gianni’s voice came through the earpiece again, furious.

“Maelle Quinn, you acted without authorization, exposed a sniper position, disobeyed a direct order, and created a massive risk.”

“Do you have any idea what the consequences are for that?”

I instantly remembered what Isabelle had said.

From the very beginning, they were ready to pin the blame on me.

No matter how this ended, I was the one who was going to be in the wrong.
