Reborn: Getting Back My Real Son Chapter 09

Reborn: Getting Back My Real Son Chapter 09

My parents knew full well they hadn’t been proper grandparents to Axel all these years, so they kept their heads. down, quietly picking at their food in embarrassment.

My in-laws, on the other hand, couldn’t stop praising Axel. But when their eyes drifted over to my sister, confusion flickered across their faces.

“Cindy,” one of them asked, “how come I never knew you had an aunt?”

I smiled.

“Aunt? No, she’s my sister.”

I couldn’t blame them for the mistake.

Years of overwork had drained every ounce of life from Judy. She’d aged long before her time. Deep wrinkles carved across her face, and her hair had long since lost its luster. No amount of makeup could cover the exhaustion etched into her features.

Sitting beside my mother, she looked so worn out that they could’ve passed for siblings if you didn’t look closely.

While everyone chatted idly, I picked up a glass of wine and sauntered toward Judy.

Ever since she walked into the banquet hall, she’d been radiating resentment. Her sour expression and that frumpy outfit made her look like a textbook bitter woman.

The fire in her eyes nearly sparked as she glared at me.

“You don’t deserve to be the mother of a top scorer! Phillip’s good fortune was stolen by that useless brat of yours!

She raised her hand to slap me, but Axel caught her wrist with ease.

“Watch your mouth.”

Axel’s voice was cold.

He was no longer the scrawny boy from years ago. He’d grown into a tall, broad-shouldered man, easily over six feet. With one hand, he restrained my struggling sister and pulled her directly in front of me.

“Apologize to my mother.”

Her face twisted with resentment-but then her eyes darted sideways, and suddenly she laughed.

“Cindy, don’t think your son’s points make him anything special. Phillip is going overseas to study. Overseas. That alone puts him far above Axel.”

Going abroad?

I thought for a moment. Could it be the same school from my last life? The one with tuition and living expenses that totaled nearly half a million a year? Even if Judy sold their house, they couldn’t possibly afford to send him

there.

The banquet was about to begin. I gave my deranged sister a cold look and tossed the wine in my hand straight at her face.

“Since Phillip’s doing so well, consider this drink my congratulations.”
My parents shot to their feet in shock, but under Nate’s intimidating stare, they slowly sat back down

My sister had never suffered humiliation from me-not even once in her entire life.

Her eyes went wide. For a moment, she was too stunned to even react.

I wiped the wine droplets from my hand.

“Whatever happens to you and Phillip is none of my business. But if either of you dares to harass me or my family again, I won’t let you off.”

The security guards dragged my shrieking sister out of the venue.

I exhaled softly.

I could only hope Phillip wouldn’t be so heartless as to gamble away his parents’ entire fortune to chase his dream future.
