Rebirth: My Sister Stole My Rapist Husband Chapter 08 The Only Choice

His tone was laced with arrogance. “Give me a year. I’ll crush Jace completely and take back the Reed fortune. With my past-life memories, I’ll build something even bigger. More than enough to take care of you and Lila.”

I stared at him, stunned, unable to believe my ears.

He misread my stunned silence as something else.

“I know you’re jealous. But listen. You were my wife in our past life. In this one, Lila’s already lost her innocence and the baby. So I’ll make her my legal wife and give her the title. And my love? My time? Those are all yours.”

I actually laughed. It wasn’t funny; it was absurd, ridiculous beyond words.

I raised my hand and slapped him across the face, the crack sharp and definitive.

I looked him dead in the eye, enunciating every single word.

“You are disgusting. And on top of that, you’ve ruined every happy memory I had of our past

life.”

Luke’s face contorted. He ran his tongue over the spot I’d hit, then let out a cold, low laugh.

“Clara. You really don’t know what’s good for you.”

His eyes darkened as he lifted his chin.

“You don’t want to cooperate? Fine. We’ll see who wins this.”

He turned and stalked off, every line of his back radiating unbridled menace.

Sure enough, the rumors about me online only spiraled from bad to worse.

But I stayed steady-attending classes, collecting evidence, and mapping out the timeline.

Three days later, Finn’s lawyers stepped in.

They released the proof: the video’s source, the initial IP address, the money trail, and screenshots of payments to the thugs-all itemized, clear, and public.

The accounts behind the smear campaign were named. Some deleted their posts overnight; others issued public apologies.

The tide had turned completely.

Then the Vanderbilts got involved. They leaned hard on the Reed family’s companies.

The Reeds might have been the wealthiest in their provincial capital, but compared to the Vanderbilts, they were in an entirely different league.

Projects were blocked. Cash flow was squeezed. Banks tightened credit lines.

In less than three months, the Reed Group’s finances collapsed.

Mr. Reed slammed his fist on the conference table. “Who the hell did you offend! The Vanderbilts? Are you out of your mind!”

That same day, he publicly announced he was cutting ties with Luke completely.

He reached out to the Vanderbilts, trying to salvage whatever he could.

Luke was cut out of the picture entirely.

At the same time, Lila realized things were falling apart.

She started trashing their rented apartment, screaming at Luke at the top of her lungs.

“You said you’d turn things around! Weren’t you the richest man in your past life? The only reason I stayed was because I knew you’d be loaded!”

The more she ranted, the more she lost control.

“If I’d known chasing Finn would get me somewhere, I would’ve done it sooner! Hell, I could’ve gone after other rich guys too!”

The words hung in the air.

Luke went rigid. He lifted his head slowly, staring at her, his voice dropping to a frigid cold.

“What did you say? You’re reborn too?”

Lila froze, then squared her shoulders, defiant.

“So what? Yeah, I am! What good did it do me? You’re useless!”

The argument escalated into a vicious screaming match.

Luke accused her of driving me away and ruining everything. She called him a failure— incapable of holding onto what was his.

Eventually, Lila cheated on Luke with Jace.

While Luke was swamped with troubles, she siphoned off all his remaining funds.

But she never expected that moments after taking the money, Jace would block her number and vanish without a trace.

Lila lost all support and fled the city in disgrace. No one saw her again.

Meanwhile, Finn and I received our acceptance letters for graduate programs abroad. We began preparing to leave.

A few days before our departure, Luke showed up.

He stood in front of me, hollowed out-clothes rumpled, eyes bloodshot.

“I know who Lila really is now. I never thought she was only with me because she knew I’d be rich someday.”

His voice cracked with emotion.

“You were the one I always loved. The things I said before… about making her my wife? That was just anger. Jealousy. I was jealous that you didn’t fight for me. So I said those things to hurt you!”
