I didn’t get to finish before she cut me off.

“Everyone follows the same protocol when there’s a car accident. ”

The Voss family’s money isn’t easy come by. ”

If I make exceptions for you, how am I supposed to run this household? ”

I figured she wouldn’t give me anything,

so I pulled out my phone and called Kael.

“Kael, your mom was in a car accident! She’s in the hospital and needs money to survive! ”

“Lila won’t give me any! Please talk to her!”

Kael was silent for a few seconds.

He told me to hand the phone to Lila.

I quickly gave it to her.

Lila’s tone softened immediately.

“Kael, I’m not being cruel. ”

“I just set the rules, and if I break them for her, no one will respect me. ”

“I know you care about her, but I need to establish authority.”

I couldn’t hear Kael’s reply.

But Lila smiled triumphantly and handed the phone back.

“Kael wants to speak to you.”

I took it. Kael’s voice was cold and impatient.

“Elara, the household has rules. Lila just took over finances and needs respect. ”

“If I make an exception for you, she can’t lead. ”

“Your mother can wait for the money. The hospital won’t let her die.”

“Wait?”

I shouted.

“Kael! Are you crazy? This is emergency surgery! Every minute counts! ”

“You don’t care at all? You’ll regret this!”

“Regret?” Kael scoffed.

“You caused that huge mess at the hospital, and I haven’t punished you yet. ”

“Let Lila get her anger out.When she calms down, the money will come.”

“Be quiet and stop causing trouble.”

He hung up brutally.

I glared at Lila and spat one word.

“Monster!”

Then I left.

I didn’t go home. I went straight to the hospital.

No money. And Lila had given secret orders.

Shortly after I arrived, they handed me an official death certificate.

I stared at the paper, my lips trembling slightly.

To me, they were just fictional characters.

But…

The System murmured.

[System]: Quiet down your laughing.

I tried to hold it in. I failed.

“Sorry. I can’t help it when I know what’s coming. ”

The System was completely used to me.

[System]: What now?

I clutched the death certificate tightly and flagged down a taxi.

“I’m going to settle the score with those two monsters. ”

I stormed into the Voss Estate and headed straight for Lila.

Before she could react, I slapped her twice across the face.

“Lila Thorne, you monster! Because of you, she didn’t make it! She’s dead! Are you happy now?”

The noise brought Kael through the front door.

He rushed to shield Lila, pointing at me and screaming.

“Elara! How dare you hit her? Your mother’s death isn’t Lila’s fault! She was already dying! We were going to send money! It’s not her fault she didn’t last!”

I slapped him across the face without hesitation, furious.

“Kael Voss! How can you say that?”

“And for the record—she wasn’t my mother. She was yours.”
