Evidence collection went fast. The DA was aggressive.

We had the high-def CCTV from the hallway. The police also recovered video from Tyler’s iCloud. Footage of them setting up their little production.

Connor’s smug voice became courtroom evidence.

“Don’t worry about Maya. She’ll do whatever I say. Just wing it.”

There it was.

My loyalty? Just foolishness he could spend freely.

My patience? A license to abuse me however he wanted.

The DA told me in the pre-trial meeting. This case was airtight.

“Harper Sinclair is charged with First-Degree Aggravated Assault.”

“Connor and the others face conspiracy and unlawful confinement charges.”

He looked at me directly. “They’re facing real prison time. Not probation. Not community service.”

I listened. No revenge thrill. Nothing.

Just a deep, hollow sadness.

Even if they got life sentences, my face was still destroyed.

My Ivy League acceptance was still gone.

But at least they’d learn. You can’t write a check and make everything go away.
