On My Wedding Day, I Married Someone Else Chapter 21

“Leaving? Where? Since when? How do I not know about this?”

Tiffany blinked innocently. Something like relief and lightness in her eyes.

“New York. My family’s lawyer says continuing any association with someone who has a criminal record would damage the family name. My fiancé… his family has deep roots on the East Coast. They’ve given me an incredible opportunity. I can’t give it up.”

Derek’s heart. Sledgehammer. Shattered.

He’d never figured out what he felt for Tiffany.

He always wanted to protect her. Her fragility, her helplessness—they fed his pathetic, laughable ego. She was a delicate doll. She made him feel like a hero.

And Savannah. Too strong. Too capable. So capable she didn’t seem to need him at all. He never considered that her strength was the only thing that had ever held his wreck of a life together.

Derek’s heart seized. He remembered. But it was too late.

Tiffany stood up. Like fleeing a crime scene. Didn’t even fake the tears.

“But… we’ll always be friends. Right, Derek?”

Derek’s mind spun. A carousel of images. Secretly selling the house full of memories. Swiping that quarter-million-dollar card. Abandoning Savannah in her fever, again and again, for Tiffany.

Derek looked at his wrists. Bound in cold handcuffs. A wretched smile twisted his face. Worse than tears.
