On My Wedding Day, I Married Someone Else Chapter 13

“I refuse. On my birthday. You spent the night with someone else at a Broadway bar. Posted all those intimate photos online. Made me look like a fool. Everyone’s pity.”

“I refuse. When my wound was infected. Fever at 104. When I needed you most. One phone call from someone else and you were gone. Didn’t even pour me a glass of water.”

“I refuse. Knowing I’m deathly allergic to peanuts—Derek, you know it could kill me—you still made me bake the peanut butter cookies she specifically asked for. Said ‘just this once.’ My whole body broke out in hives. I couldn’t breathe. And you accused me of being dramatic. Said I was making her feel unwelcome.”

With every word, Derek’s face lost more color. Like I was peeling off his mask with my bare hands.

He had never imagined. Beneath the surface of that strong, never-complaining woman. So much pain. His mouth opened to argue. But all that came out was defensive rage.

“Then why didn’t you say something? You never said anything. How was I supposed to know you were hurting this much? I thought you didn’t care…”

I laughed. Cold. Empty.

“I didn’t say anything? I didn’t cry and scream and fight with you?”

“Every single time. You covered your ears. Told me I was annoying. Told me to be mature. Be generous. Stop acting like a bitter wife!”

Derek’s face went paper-white. No blood left. No words. Because he knew. Every word was true.

I stared into his evasive eyes.

“Derek. Do you remember how I got this scar on my back?”

He blinked. Answered on instinct. Like reciting the right line.

“To save me… But what does that have to do with you leaving me? With you being with another man?”

My smile was ice. A blade.

“You really don’t remember. You never kept a single promise you made to me. So don’t stand here now. Performing regret.”

“Go, Derek. We’ve been over for a long time.”
