Derek’s parents pushed through the crowd. Confusion and displeasure on their faces.

“What’s going on? Where’s Savannah? Weren’t you picking her up? You’ve made every relative here a witness to this humiliation?”

Derek’s eyes were bloodshot. His fists clenched, knuckles cracking. He couldn’t form a single word.

Beside him, Marcus sighed deeply. He’d pieced it all together.

“I told you, brother. A hundred times. You wouldn’t listen.”

“Your wedding. You sold the marital home without telling her. For another woman’s handbag. And now the bride’s gone. With someone else. You pushed her straight into another man’s arms.”

“A couple days ago, downtown. I thought I saw Savannah walking into the property records office with some tall guy. Figured my eyes were playing tricks. Turns out she’d already found her exit. Moved faster than you.”

Derek’s parents looked like they might have simultaneous heart attacks. His mother clutched her chest. The hand pointing at Derek shook.

“You worthless piece of—do you understand what you’ve done? Go get her back! On your knees if you have to!”

Derek’s eyes blazed. A bull off its chain. He grabbed Tiffany’s arm. The terrified girl flinched.

“Tiffany. You’re coming with me. Right now. You’re going to explain everything to her.”

His grip hurt. She felt bone. She shrank back, panicked and wronged.

“Derek, you’re hurting me… Let go! And what’s the point? She already married someone else. It’s too late for everything…”

Derek roared, all reason gone.

“She’s my wife! My fucking wife! I can’t let her run off with another man!”

“You have to come. Explain it to her. Tell her there’s nothing between us. You were the one chasing me. I just got confused for a moment!”
