No Longer the Alpha’s Guardian Chapter 18

No Longer the Alpha’s Guardian Chapter 18

Sophia’s words hit me.

The family had never been peaceful. My father spent his whole life protecting what he built.

Now he was gone. The leeches would come.

But at the funeral, I hadn’t seen a single one.

“Noah took care of that?”

“Yes, miss. I heard Alpha Noah flew for over ten hours, didn’t even go home, and drove straight to the master’s brothers and sisters. He made sure they stayed away. That’s why he was so late last night. And the ointment on your face—he changed it himself so the healer wouldn’t wake you.”

“That man Elijah knelt outside all night. Alpha Noah sent him away. If you ask me, Elijah was never good enough. When he found out Alpha Noah is your fiancé, he said you planned this all along. Said you and Alpha Noah have been sleeping together for years.”

“He said that about me?”

I laughed, cold and hollow.

Elijah cheated on me. He humiliated me. He hurt me.

And now he was calling me the liar.

Unbelievable.

Good riddance.

Sophia laid a dress on the bed.

“Miss, you said you wanted to marry someone you knew. You knew Elijah, and look how that turned out. Why not give Alpha Noah a chance? In looks, power, money—he’s leagues above Elijah.”

She wasn’t wrong.

I had picked Elijah myself. A total failure.

My father’s choice couldn’t be worse.

And the Moon Shadow Pack’s wealth was enormous. Too big for one person to protect.

I couldn’t do this alone.

But with Noah…

“I understand.” I nodded slowly. “But the lunch today—”

“It’s a family dinner,” Sophia said gently. “You’ll attend as Alpha Noah’s fiancée. The master just wanted someone to take care of you.”

I smiled.

“Okay. I’ll marry Noah.”

When I came downstairs in my dress, Noah’s face finally flickered.

“Beautiful.”

“Thank you.”

“If you’re not ready, I can wait.”

I shook my head. “I’m dressed. Let’s go.”

“I meant,” he said carefully, “if you don’t want to marry me, I can wait.”

He was serious.

I shook my head again. For the first time, I smiled at him.

“I’ll marry you. One condition. My father just died. I don’t want to rush the ceremony.”

“I understand. I said I can wait.”

I took a breath and hooked my arm through his.

“Let’s go, fiancé.”

“Call me Noah.”

“Noah.”

I thought I would feel pressure standing next to him.

Instead, I felt safe.

Maybe Noah was the right one after all.

I looked up at the blue sky and whispered to myself.

“Dad, if you can hear me… please watch over me.”
