Noah raised an eyebrow.

She didn’t know yet. Before Alpha Alex died, he had entrusted Audrey to him.

The maid set down a cup of tea with careful hands. Before the old Alpha passed, he told them all: Alpha Noah will be Audrey’s mate. You will treat him like the master of this house.

“Alpha Noah, your tea.”

“The man kneeling outside. That’s her ex? Elijah?”

“Yes. He made a scene at the Alpha’s funeral today. The young lady was very upset.”

“Was she.”

Noah took a slow sip of tea, then stood and walked outside.

Rain poured down. Elijah knelt with his eyes barely open.

He saw the pack house door open. His heart leaped.

Audrey. She had forgiven him. She was coming out.

“Audrey—you do love me—you couldn’t stand to see me suffer—”

“Alpha.”

Polished leather shoes stopped in front of him.

He looked up.

A man. A perfect face he didn’t know.

Who was this? Coming out of Audrey’s house? When had he gone in?

“Who are you? Where’s Audrey?”

“She’s asleep.”

Noah stood over him with a black umbrella, looking down like Elijah was nothing.

“I’m her fiancé.”

“What?”

Elijah lunged to his feet and grabbed the man’s collar.

“Say that again. Fiancé? Audrey and I are still mated. She can’t have a fiancé.”

“Let go.”

Soldiers swarmed Elijah and tore him off.

“You dare put your hands on Alpha Noah?”

“Who are you?” Elijah laughed bitterly. “So this is why Audrey suddenly wanted out. She had someone else all along. Audrey! Get out here! Audrey!”

Rain swallowed his screams.

Noah pinched the bridge of his nose. “Beat him. Then drag him far away. If he comes near Audrey again, kill him.”

The soldiers pinned Elijah down, beat him bloody, and threw him out.
