In the living room, a group of people started playing Truth or Dare.

After a few rounds, Elara held up an empty wine bottle and said with a smile, “Let’s play something more exciting. Whoever the bottle points to gets to make any two people do whatever they want.”

The suggestion was met with loud cheers.

Maddox and Sterling were all for it.

Sure enough, on the very first round, the mouth of the bottle stopped in front of Elara.

She pretended to think for a moment, then announced, “Number 2 and Number 5 have to reenact the bow scene from *Titanic*.”

As soon as she finished speaking, everyone looked down at the cards in their hands.

I opened my palm. The two of hearts.

Maddox frowned and flipped over the five of spades.

The living room erupted.

“Tessa, looks like it’s your lucky night!”

“Get up there, Maddox!”

I was pushed onto the coffee table, my body rigid with reluctance.

Maddox was shoved in front of me, his face a mask of annoyance.

Sterling was still laughing from the sidelines, egging us on.

“Come on, Maddox, hurry up. Everyone’s waiting. Tessa, lift your arms.”

I slowly raised my arms and closed my eyes, not wanting to see the look on Maddox’s face.

The embrace never came.

Instead, a sudden force shoved me from behind.

It was Elara.

She had wrapped her arms around me and was shouting at Maddox, “See? This works too, right?”

The second she touched me, my foot slipped. I lost my balance and fell straight backward.

There was a dull thud as the back of my head struck the hard corner of the coffee table.

The beer and soda on the table crashed down with me. Cold liquid and soggy snacks spilled all over my clothes.
