My Yandere Online Boyfriend Slept Next Door Chapter 03

My Yandere Online Boyfriend Slept Next Door Chapter 03

Now, staring at Knox’s voice call request on my screen, I hesitated—then pressed accept.

He let out a low breath, slightly uneven.

“Baby, did you hang up by accident just now?”

My ears burned.

I always took these calls under the covers, hidden away from the world.

When I talked to him, my voice went sweet—

nothing like the quiet, boring version of me everyone knew.

I was completely out of character.

I pulled myself together, slid back under the blanket, and pitched my voice higher.

“Yeah, it was an accident.”

“Baby, you took forever tonight. I’m getting sleepy… maybe I should just head to bed?”

LOL Chloe’s a menace.

Knox is totally wrapped around her finger.

She’s really gonna leave him hanging like that?

He used his negotiation voice.

“Baby, just give me twenty more minutes. That’ll make it a full hour.”

I let out a soft “Mm.”

—

Twenty minutes later, I hung up right on time.

My heart was racing.

The plan was simple:

tomorrow, I’d go into work and hand the account back to Serena.

She’d take over from here, meet him in person.

I’d collect the rest of my payment and bury this whole thing.

But now I knew the voice on the other end belonged to Knox.

And that changed everything.

A year ago, my lease expired.

I was looking for a place near the bank—

found a listing on Zillow for a shared apartment in a high-end building.

A girl was looking for a roommate.

Except I went to the wrong floor and rang Knox’s doorbell by mistake.

He answered fresh out of the shower, robe loosely tied, face cold.

“Who are you looking for?”

He was six-three, easy. Model build.

Water still dripping down his chest.

I was a good girl who’d never seen anything like that in real life.

My ears went red.

“I—I was here to see an apartment. I must’ve gotten the wrong floor.”

He didn’t say anything. Just closed the door.

The girl who’d been looking for a roommate? She’d already found one.

I spent days searching, but nothing worked out.

I couldn’t afford the rent alone.

My old landlord wanted me out in three days.

I was sitting on a park bench, tired and defeated, when Knox walked past with his trash.

“Still haven’t found a place?”

“Not yet. I’ll keep looking.”

I got up to leave.

He called after me. “I have an extra room.”

“If you don’t mind, I can rent it to you cheap.”

That’s how I ended up.

Three-bedroom. Clean, minimaere, expensive.

He had the master.

There was a study. The other room had a small terrace.

I loved it.

The rent? Eight hundred a month.

In Manhattan, you couldn’t get anything under fifteen hundred.

The same unit in this building went for six thousand.

A normal split would’ve been two grand.

He gave me eight.

I figured he was some quiet rich kid.

This was probably just one of many properties.

His shirts were The Row—understated, but expensive.

His body wash? Jo Malone.

Mine was dollar-store soap.

I’d tried his once. Just a drop. Couldn’t resist.

That night, I fell asleep wrapped in that scent—clean, warm, intoxicating.

Like being held by him.

But if I stayed here, the truth about the online thing would come out.

I needed to find a new place. Fast.
