My Wife Longed for My Foster Brother Chapter 10

My Wife Longed for My Foster Brother Chapter 10 Into the Sunlight

Another month passed.

Finally, it was the day of August and Summer’s wedding. The media had been building it up for weeks–a dream wedding, the event of the century

As August stood at the altar, he remembered how he’d once wanted to give Cassandra a grand ceremony too. She’d refused, coldly, calling it all flash and no substance. Now, he was grateful they’d never gone through with it. A ceremony like this was meaningless if you weren’t standing beside the person you truly loved.

The ceremony was half over when an uninvited guest burst through the doors.

Derek’s eyes were bloodshot. He was holding a modified knife. He charged straight at August.

But just as he raised the blade, Cassandra appeared from nowhere and threw herself in front of it.

The knife plunged into her abdomen.

She collapsed into a pool of blood, staring up at August with desperate eyes. She had taken a knife for him. Now he would come to her, hold her-

August frowned. He pulled Summer protectively into his arms and calmly directed security to handle the

scene.

Even as Cassandra was lifted into the ambulance, he never came near her. Not a single word of comfort. He had been kinder to the families of the crash victims than he was to her.

Now she understood. Love and indifference–they really were that clear. She clutched her chest, weeping.

The paramedics looked confused. Her wound was in her stomach. Why was she clutching her heart?

The last time August ever saw Cassandra was at the airport, years later.

After the wedding, Derek had gone to prison. Cassandra’s family sent her abroad, hoping she would recover–but she fell deeper into darkness, getting addicted to things she never should have touched. Her father dragged her back and forced her into rehab,

That day, August was taking Summer and their one–year–old daughter to England for a holiday. He spotted Cassandra at the airport after checking in.

She was skin and bones. The elegant, composed woman he’d once known was gone. Her face had lost all its light. Her eyes were empty.

They passed each other. Cassandra’s eyes lit up, and the words tumbled out of her mouth before she could stop them.

“August…”

Two years had passed. He was still so dazzling–like the sun.

August didn’t stop. He didn’t turn back. He pulled his wife a little closer and walked toward the light.

Some stories don’t end with forgiveness.

Some wounds never heal, no matter how much time goes by.

Cassandra spent years trying to reach August. Letters. Emails. Mutual friends. She never got a single reply.

Derek died in prison. The Sterlings erased him from their memory.

August rebuilt his life–from the ground up. He married Summer. They had a child. He left the past behind and never looked back.

And Cassandra?

She watched from the outside, always. She could only watch. Always too late.

Because she’d loved the wrong man, hated the right one, and shattered everything in between.

Some stories don’t have happy endings.

This was one of them.
