My Wedding Dress And Ring Were For My Best Friend Chapter 09

My Wedding Dress And Ring Were For My Best Friend Chapter 09

I shook my head, each step punctuating another sentence.

“Love that comes too late isn’t worth a damn.”

“The moment you gave the designer Paige’s ring size, shoe size, and dress measurements instead of mine, we were over for good.”

A heavy thud sounded behind me as Ethan dropped to his knees.

Soon, his sobs grew louder, thick with regret.

I did not slow down. I kept walking toward the life waiting for me.

I knew that chapter of my youth was finally fading into the past.

By the time Lucas came home from work, Ethan was gone.

Lucas did not ask about the old belongings that had suddenly appeared in the yard.

He simply wrapped an arm around my waist and spoke with quiet gratitude.

“Nora, I’m incredibly lucky that idiot was foolish enough to lose you.”

“You rejected me so decisively during your senior year that I was miserable for a long time. I’m glad I never truly gave up. I got the girl in the end.”

His words made me laugh.

I had met Lucas by chance during my senior year. He was an upperclassman majoring in legal studies.

I majored in design, and whenever one of my projects raised a legal or regulatory question, he patiently helped me work through it.

As we spent more time together, he developed feelings for me.

At the time, however, my heart was completely set on Ethan, so I gently turned Lucas down.

He understood and did not keep pursuing me. Later, he went abroad to continue his studies.

The day I discovered that the engagement ring and wedding dress had been made in Paige’s size, I called him.

I did not waste time easing into the conversation.

“Are you married?”

“No.”

“Are you seeing anyone?”

“No.”

Only after receiving both answers did I ask my final question.

“Lucas, does what you told me six years ago still stand?”

He froze for a few seconds, then burst out in delight.

“It does. Of course it does. If it’s you, the answer will always be yes.”

On the day I was fired, he flew back from overseas.

We spent one day meeting with both sets of parents, picking up our marriage license, and buying the rings and my wedding dress.

We spent the next day putting together the ceremony and reception.

On the third day, we got married.

The memory brought a smile to my lips.

With the wrong person, waiting six years or even longer might still never lead to a happy ending.

With the right person, sometimes one meeting is enough to know you have found someone worth building a life with.
