My Wedding Dress And Ring Were For My Best Friend Chapter 07

My Wedding Dress And Ring Were For My Best Friend Chapter 07

The next day, I stood at the altar in a white wedding gown.

The officiant was about to lead Lucas and me through the ring exchange when the doors crashed open.

“Nora!”

The anguished roar echoed through the entire venue.

I turned and met Ethan’s bloodshot, frantic eyes.

Lucas instinctively stepped in front of me.

“Sir, this is our wedding day. You’re welcome to stay as a guest and raise a glass with us. But if you’re here to cause trouble, I won’t tolerate it.”

The color drained from Ethan’s face.

He moved toward us one slow step at a time, staring at me as his lips trembled.

“Nora, I’m the man you’re supposed to marry today. Who is he?”

Lucas started to answer, but I raised a hand to stop him.

“I’ll handle this.”

I stepped forward. My voice was not loud, but it carried clearly through the room.

“Ethan, I broke up with you days ago. My message could not have been clearer.”

“From that moment on, we were free to marry whomever we wanted. We had nothing to do with each other anymore.”

“What message? What are you talking about? I never saw anything.”

The panic on Ethan’s face looked genuine.

I turned toward my mother, and she handed me her phone.

I pulled up the breakup message and held the screen in front of him.

“Do you see it now? There is nothing between us anymore.”

Ethan’s eyes widened.

He stared at the screen, his entire body beginning to shake.

“No. I don’t accept this.”

He seized my wrist, his grip tightening as though he could physically keep me from ever leaving him.

“You’re breaking up with me and marrying someone else just because of the flagship design project?”

A quiet laugh escaped me.

“Was one project not enough? You knew I had spent six months working on it and pulled more all-nighters than I could count. When I refused to give Paige the official lead-designer credit, you framed me for plagiarism.”

“To help her, you even used the fact that she once saved my life to guilt me into giving in…”

“Nora, I only felt sorry for Paige. I was trying to help her.”

“Really? And helping her somehow landed you in bed with her?”

“I didn’t sleep with her! Nothing happened between us. We never crossed that line!”

Ethan shook his head, arguing until his voice turned hoarse.

Whether anything had happened between them no longer mattered to me.

“Fine. Let’s say nothing happened. But Ethan—”

I tilted my head and studied him as though he were a stranger.

“But you cooked for her. You switched from lattes back to iced Americanos because that was what she drank. You secretly kept a toiletry bag stocked with her usual products in the bathroom, and you memorized every one of her food preferences.”

“All of that happened while you were with me. No matter how much you deny it, you can’t change the fact that you were emotionally unfaithful.”

“Leave. I’m still giving you the chance to walk away with some dignity.”

I pried his fingers from my wrist one by one, unwilling to waste another moment arguing with him.

His hand trembled uncontrollably as he tried to hold on. His voice broke as he apologized and begged.

“Nora, I was wrong. I know I was wrong. Please give me one more chance.”

I pulled my hand free, stepped back, and shook my head.

“Not everyone will wait for you forever. Leave.”

Lucas lifted one hand.

Several broad-shouldered men seized Ethan and dragged him out of the venue.
