My Twin Sister Became His Second Luna Chapter 05

My Twin Sister Became His Second Luna Chapter 05

When the mate ceremony ended, Nerys tossed the laurel wreath toward the unmated she-wolves behind her.

It landed on the floor. No one caught it.

Her smile froze for a second before she looked around for me.

“Where’s my sister?”

Only then did Mother notice that the sign-in table in the entryway was empty. My suitcase was gone.

At the center of the long table lay only the salt-sprinkled declaration. It was an old werewolf tradition: a signature marked with salt was an oath that could not be broken.

Father picked it up and read the first two lines. His face changed instantly.

“How dare she?”

Once the oath took effect, there was no place for me in Stoneveil’s collective aura. Father tried to summon me with his Alpha will, but the mind link answered with nothing but silence.

Only then did he panic.

For the past ten years, I’d managed Stoneveil’s winter supplies, border patrols, Healer rotations, and trade agreements with Crestwood. His old injuries had worsened steadily in recent years, and he’d rarely attended council meetings himself. Once I was gone, no one at Monday’s council meeting would even know which budget to put forward first.

But there were guests from more than a dozen Packs around them.

The brief panic quickly turned to fury.

“She left that declaration here on purpose, just to make Stoneveil a laughingstock!” Father slapped the parchment onto the table. “She abandoned her Pack for a man at her own sister’s mate ceremony. Does she have no responsibility as the heir?”

Nerys’s eyes immediately filled with tears.

“Why did my sister have to ruin my ceremony? I’d looked forward to the wreath toss for so long. I even wanted to give her my blessing myself. She knows better than anyone that I want her to be happy, yet she couldn’t even give me that last bit of dignity.”

Kaelen pulled her into his arms and murmured soothingly.

“Don’t cry. She’s acting on impulse. Once she calms down, she’ll come back.”

“But Mom and Dad already found her another match.” Nerys sniffled. “What more does she want? Does she have to steal my mate before she’ll think it’s fair?”

Kaelen’s arm suddenly went rigid.

“What other match?”

“An heir from a small Pack…”

“Who authorized that?” Kaelen’s ice-blue eyes darkened sharply. The wolf pressure he hadn’t fully reined in drove the surrounding guests back. “She’s the Luna the Moon Goddess chose for me!”

Nerys looked up in disbelief.

“You just rejected her, and you already marked me at the altar.”

“That doesn’t mean she can marry another Alpha.”

The possessiveness in his words drained the color from Nerys’s face.

“The match was just something Mom and Dad said to appease her.” She hurriedly grabbed Kaelen’s sleeve. “No one was actually trying to take her away. She’s just pretending to be hurt so you’ll chase after her.”

Kaelen was silent for a moment before turning to his Beta.

“Don’t send anyone after her.”

His voice had gone calm again.

“If she really goes to meet this so-called match, let her learn what happens without the status of Crestwood or Stoneveil. Who would take in a rogue who voluntarily severed her pack bond? She won’t last long. She’ll come back on her own.”

At the same time, Mother was meeting with a representative from Redmarsh Pack in a lounge on the second floor of Wolf Hall.

He was a widowed Alpha in his late thirties who had already reviewed my bloodline records and management history.

“The ceremony is over. When can I meet Nerissa?” He tapped the alliance draft in his hand. “Your Pack promised she’d sign a preliminary marriage agreement with me tonight.”

Mother was about to answer when the Beta burst through the door and handed her the salt-sealed declaration.

“Luna, Nerissa has severed her pack bond. The link is gone, and she’s already left Crestwood territory.”

Mother stood frozen for a long moment.

The man frowned and pressed her again. “Sabine, we’ve opened the border access as agreed. Stoneveil can’t go back on its word.”

Mother shoved him aside and stumbled toward the door.

“How could she actually leave?”

For the first time, she didn’t call me by my name or by my title as heir.

She only cried out in panic:

“Where’s my daughter?”
