My Stepbrother’s Secret Mate Chapter 06

My Stepbrother’s Secret Mate Chapter 06

After Theodore said that so calmly, I just stared at him for a second, unable to react.

My brain lagged for a few beats, and then I let out a laugh.

“Thank you for trying to comfort me like this. I’ll do my best to get myself together and move on from this

breakup.”

Theodore froze.

Then I said, “You probably don’t know this, but my ex-boyfriend was Xander Hale. Because he was also my brother, I had to keep him a secret from everyone. I just never imagined his heart had already turned to

someone else. It sounds like something out of a novel, doesn’t it?”

“We’ve only known each other for a few days, and we probably haven’t even exchanged a hundred sentences, but you still helped me this much. I honestly don’t know how to thank you.”

I gave him a helpless smile.

But the handsome Alpha standing in front of me didn’t smile back. Instead, he fell strangely silent.

I swallowed hard. “Alpha… what is it?”

Theodore reached over and gently touched my hair. “I want you to call me Theo.”

I blinked at him. “Theo? Isn’t that a little too intimate?”

He patted my head. His gaze swept across my face, and then a low, bitter laugh slipped out of his throat. “It’s fine. You’re right. I was moving too fast. Come on. I’ll walk you back.”

We followed the path back toward the pack.

On the way, he told me a few stories about Blackspine Pack. He was funnier than I had expected, and before I knew it, I was laughing out loud and forgetting, at least for a little while, how miserable the night had been.

But just before we reached home, I saw Xander waiting outside.

My smile vanished so abruptly it felt like it had frozen on my face.

I turned to Theodore and said, “Thank you, Theo. You can leave me here.”

He had obviously already seen Xander. Their eyes met in the air, and the tension between them hit like

sparks.

Theodore shifted into a protective stance. When he turned serious, any werewolf warrior would have felt a

chill run down their spine.

But I insisted. “Theo, let me handle this on my own.”

Theodore looked down at me. After a long silence, he finally said, “I’ll stay nearby. If anything happens, call

for me. I’ll come for you.”

My eyes stung, and I nodded.

I truly couldn’t understand it. Why was my stepbrother so cruel to me, while his uncle was so gentle?

The second Theodore disappeared from sight, a hand clamped down hard on my shoulder, painfully tight.

“What? Can’t bear to let him go?” Xander sneered.

I turned around.

Xander was glaring at me, his eyes blazing with fury.

“Valencia Hale, what the hell are you trying to pull? The second you left me, you started whoring around? You deliberately went after my uncle just to piss me off, just to fight me? You think this is a game?”

I stared at him in disbelief.

Every soft illusion I had ever wrapped around him shattered all at once.

I genuinely did not know how someone could be this shameless.

“Enough. Be good,” he said. “Things with Pallavi are not what you think. But you? You walked off with

another man right in front of your actual boyfriend. That’s shameless.”

“And you’ve got the nerve to throw yourself at an Alpha? Your parents would be ashamed of you.”

My hand swung before I could think, and the slap cracked across his face.

“You hit me?” he said, staring at me in disbelief.

“Xander, you know exactly who’s in the wrong here. Are you really proud of playing with other people’s

feelings?”

“You’re calling me shameless? Then let me ask you something. You betrayed me and flaunted your girlfriend right in front of me, and somehow I’m the shameless one?”

“You turned the nightmares of war into an excuse to toy with people’s hearts. You’re a disgrace to

werewolves, a traitor to the Moon Goddess. You’re disgusting, vile, and pathetic. I regret the two years I wasted on you.”

I screamed every word at him, pouring all my anger out at once.

Stung, Xander snapped back, “The only mistake I ever made was dating you. What do you have that could

ever compare to Pallavi? You’re not as beautiful as she is, not as kind, and definitely not as popular. Every second I spent with you made me sick.”

I shouted back without a trace of fear, “Yes. Your mistake was sleeping with your own sister.”

Xander stared at me with a dark expression. In the end, he only spat out one line.

“You’ll regret this.”

I didn’t want to spend one more second alone with him. I shot him one last vicious glare and ran upstairs.

The moment I got back to my room, I broke down in tears. The screaming had drained every last bit of

strength out of me. I didn’t know how Xander would get back at me, but at that point, I no longer cared.

Then my phone lit up with a text from Theodore.

Theo: [I saw you make it upstairs. Get some rest, and don’t waste any more energy on trash like that. Good

night.]

The moment I saw that brief bit of concern, I lost control completely and burst into sobs.
