Two more days dragged by.

A Black King Serpent Shifter waited at my front gate when I pulled up home, a long-stem crimson rose held between its fangs.

It’d dressed itself up carefully this time, a tiny satin micro bow tie wrapped around its neck, a spritz of vintage woodsy cologne clinging to its scales.

Its tail twisted anxiously in small circles, nervous beyond belief.

Holographic overlays flickered into view.

[Who’s this serpent?]

[I can’t tell Jasper and Silas’s serpent forms apart anymore.]

The petty plan made me smile to myself.

Telling the two serpent shifters apart was simple, all I needed to do was look into their eyes.

Silas’s gaze held genuine warmth, no trace of disdain or arrogant entitlement like Jasper’s.

I knelt down and stretched out my palm toward him.

The serpent’s anxiety melted away at once, slithering quickly onto my open hand, its bright vertical pupils locked onto mine.

“You can rub against me all you want,” I told him softly.

Its head brushed gently against my fingertips.

I’d gotten my clingy serpent back at last.
