My Sister Popped The Bubble Of My Happy Marriage Chapter 03

After Serafina moved in, Dante started coming home earlier and earlier.

Every time he came back from the port office or the family club, he often brought desserts. And the desserts were always Serafina’s favorites. I couldn’t eat for days, until I was throwing up in the bathroom and couldn’t stand. Then I went to the hospital alone.

When the results came back, I sat there stunned for a long time.

I was pregnant.

When Dante got to the hospital, his forehead was still sweaty. He hugged me and said, overjoyed,

“Celeste, we’re having a baby.”

In that moment, I’ll admit it. I wavered.

He canceled his port business meeting and stayed with me through the rest of the tests. On the way home, he started planning the nursery, asking how I wanted to decorate it, even asking whether I hoped for a boy or a girl.

I looked at his profile and couldn’t help thinking, maybe I can give this marriage one more chance. For the baby.

When Serafina heard the news, she sent over a set of baby clothes and a silver necklace.

She placed the necklace in my palm and smiled.

“When the baby is born, I want to be the godmother. I’ll be the best godmother in the world.”

Dante sat beside me and said casually,

“The doctor wants Celeste to rest. I’ll spend more time with her from now on.”

Serafina’s hands paused as she opened the gift box.

A second later, the edge of the wrapping paper cut a shallow line across her fingertip.

Dante immediately put down the test results and grabbed her hand.

“How did you manage to hurt yourself?”

He pulled her away to treat the cut.

The paper with my test results fell to the floor and sat there. Nobody picked it up.

That night, I went downstairs for water and heard Dante’s voice from the balcony.

“The baby was an accident. It doesn’t change your place in my heart.”

Serafina had her back to him, shoulders trembling slightly. “I don’t want to watch the three of you play happy family.”

Dante was silent for a moment. Then he pulled her into his arms. “Give me a little more time.”

I stood in the dark, holding my glass of water.

The little hope that had just sparked to life burned out completely.

A few days later, the Santoro family held a dinner at the Rinaldi Townhouse.

Serafina volunteered to take the fruit knife and cut me a plate of apples. Then she set the knife down and leaned in to touch my belly.

“The baby will be born safe and sound.”

I looked at her smile and suddenly reached out and grabbed the wrist that had just held the knife.

The blade turned toward my belly.

The color drained from Serafina’s face.

Dante shot to his feet. “Celeste, what the hell are you doing?”

I didn’t look at him. I stared into Serafina’s eyes. “Every day you look at my child and smile. Doesn’t it wear you out?”

Her hand started shaking.

I tightened my grip and pushed the tip of the blade in another inch. “Isn’t this what you want?”

The fruit knife clattered to the floor.
