I didn’t even know why I called him.

“Gabriel, you absolute bastard!” I shouted into the phone.

“Why don’t you just drop dead right now?!”

I panted hard after the outburst.

Surprisingly, yelling at him actually made me feel a lot better.

Why was he the only one who got to make me feel like crap? Well, two could play at that game.

“Audrey, where are you?” Gabriel’s voice sounded rough and low.

“Have you been drinking? Who’s there with you…”

“None of your damn business!” I snapped. “What I do has nothing to do with you. Not anymore.”

The entire table burst into applause.

Jessie, being Jessie, snatched the phone and jumped right in, yelling at him with me.

Gabriel endured the entire thing without saying a single word.

“Where are you?” he asked again.

“What, you wanna come settle this in person?” Jessie shot back, eyebrows raised.

She rattled off the restaurant address without missing a beat.

“If your cheating ass actually shows up, we’ll chop you into pieces.”

The only response was the dial tone.

My head was pounding. All I remembered was telling Sarah to hold onto my phone so I wouldn’t lose it.

After that, everything went black. I had no idea what I said or what I did afterward.

I had this vague memory of someone lifting me up.

When I came to, I was back in my rental.

I pressed a hand to my aching head and walked out of the bedroom.
