My Rival Bragged About Her Don Husband, But He Was My Secret Husband Chapter 07

The next morning, Sandro came into my study.

“The car’s been sent for repairs. The people who damaged it – how do you want to handle them?”

“Get the lawyers involved. Standard damages, standard detention. But the apology has to be filmed and posted publicly. I don’t want to see any of them in person.”

Sandro’s brow creased.

“Just that?”

How could it be just that? Selena wasn’t going to agree to those terms. We weren’t done, not by a long way.

But my father always taught me: first, be reasonable with your enemies. Give them the choice.

As for the others, they were just dogs following the one who fed them. What they’d gotten was enough.

Julian had been messaging since last night. Dozens of them by now.

“Ava. I was wrong.”

“It’s not what you think. Please let me explain.”

“I’m begging you.”

Like flies buzzing around my head.

I read them, blocked him, and dropped my phone in a drawer.

Selena stayed quiet for two days.

Sandro told me the legal negotiations were stalling. They weren’t accepting my terms.

Rats couldn’t think like people.

Then didn’t blame me.

On the third day, a classmate I barely knew, Jason, sent me a stack of screenshots out of the blue, pulled from the group chat I’d been removed from.

Selena had posted a long statement.

The gist: I had shown up to her wedding and caused a scene, hired a group of fake mobsters to frighten her, and falsely accused her of being a home-wrecker. She and Julian had a love that could withstand anything. She’d moved into the family estate and had absolutely no intention of backing down to a lunatic like me.

Attached at the end of the statement were Julian’s text messages to her, and they were cozy ones.

Jason’s message: “I figured this might be useful to you.”

So there was one sharp mind in that group after all.

“What do you want in return?”

“I lost my job. I need something that can support my whole family.”

Simple enough.

I also started getting texts from numbers I didn’t recognize. “Heir to some unknown family? Big deal.” “Stay away from Julian. He and Selena belong together.”

Idiots, every one of them.

That evening, Julian called.

This time I picked up.

“Ava, I—”

“Julian.”

I cut him off. Not a trace of warmth in my voice.

“Whatever’s between you and Selena – I don’t care. But when I’m made to look like a fool, the entire Costanzo name takes the hit. Do you understand that?”

Silence on the other end.

“I do. I’ll handle it.”

But I’d overestimated him.

Three days later, at a dinner, I walked in and found Selena on the arm of Margaret, Julian’s mother.
