Chloe was in the hotel suite, touching up her makeup in the 

mirror. 

She knew I’d jumped. She knew the car was wrecked. The wedding was ruined. 

She wasn’t worried. 

Without Elena, she was the only Sterling daughter left. Julian’s 

rightful fiancée. The one they would all choose. The math was 

simple. 

Then the door flew off its hinges. 

Arthur crossed the room in two steps, grabbed her by the throat, and pinned her to the wall. 

“You changed her medical reports. You knew she was sick — you knew she was dying – and you let us punish her for it.” 

Chloe clawed at his hand, her face turning red, tears streaming. “Arthur – what are you doing – I don’t know what you’re talking about –” 

“You don’t know?” 

Julian walked in and shoved the phone in her face. The footage froze with her hands on the keyboard. 

“Every medical report we got for three years – you forged them. All of them.” 

His voice stayed level. Controlled. Worse than shouting. 

“Elena told us she had cancer. She told us she was being 

tortured to death. None of us believed her.” He let that sit. “But you knew. From the very beginning, you knew 

everything.” 

Nolan stepped forward and dropped a stack of bank records at her feet. 

“Monthly wire transfers to Ravens Hollow. The memo line on every single one says the same thing – ‘special treatment for Elena.“” His jaw tightened. “Everything they did to her in those three years – it wasn’t just us. You were funding it behind our backs.” 

Every bit of color drained from Chloe’s face. 

She looked at the three men who had once worshipped her, 

and saw that the performance was over. 

She laughed. It was an ugly sound. 

“Fine. So what?” 

Her voice split open, and the truth came spilling out. 

“Why did Elena get everything? The Sterling name, the 

money, Julian wrapped around her finger, Arthur eating out of her hand, Nolan willing to die for her – why her?” 

Julian watched her come apart. Whatever was left of the woman he thought he knew disappeared in front of him. 

He walked up to her. Caught her chin between his fingers and squeezed until her jaw ached. 

“Your mother was a mistress. You were the product of an affair with nowhere to go. The Sterlings took you in. Fed you. Dressed you. Gave you their name.” 

His grip tightened. 

“Elena gave you her room. Let you wear her clothes. Treated you like a sister.” His voice dropped. “And you destroyed her for it.” 

He let go and stepped back. When he looked at her again, there was nothing left in his eyes. 

“Everything Elena went through – you’re going to feel every second yourself.” 

Arthur grabbed Chloe by the hair and dragged her out of the room, down the stairs, and into the alley behind the hotel. 

Nolan’s security team had already rounded up the men from last night. They were waiting in the alley. 

Arthur threw her at their feet. His voice came out raw, scraped 

empty. 

“Whatever you did to the girl last night – do the same to this one. A million dollars each when you’re done.” 

The men looked at one another. Then at Chloe. Then they 

smiled. 

Chloe broke. She threw herself at Arthur’s legs, screaming. “Arthur, please – you can’t do this – it’s me, Chloe, please 

Arthur kicked her off. 

“I only ever had one sister.” 

He walked away. Chloe’s screams followed him out.
