My Rescue Was Their Reunion, My Hell Was Their Project Chapter 03

The door slammed open. Julian stood in the doorway — he’d heard every word.

Chloe was right behind him, eyes already wet. She grabbed my hand.

“Elena, please don’t be upset — this is all my fault. I won’t marry Julian. The wedding is yours.” Her voice broke right on cue. “Just please don’t cut ties with Arthur and Julian. Please?”

Before anyone could respond, she pulled away from Julian and ran. A door slammed somewhere down the hall. The lock clicked into place.

“Chloe!” Julian and Arthur were already moving. They pounded on the door. “Open up! Don’t do anything stupid — Chloe, open the door!”

No answer. Julian kicked it in.

Chloe was on the floor. Blood streamed from both wrists. A razor blade lay beside her hand.

“Chloe!” Arthur’s face contorted. He hauled me off the bed and backhanded me hard.

My head snapped sideways. Blood spread at the corner of my mouth.

“Are you trying to kill her?” His voice shook with rage. “Is this what it takes for you to feel anything?”

Julian scooped Chloe off the floor and ran. His shoulder slammed into me on the way out — I stumbled, and the corner of the bedside table split my forehead. Blood ran warm down my face.

“If she dies, I’ll come for you.”

Nolan arrived minutes later with two bodyguards. “Get her to the hospital. If Chloe doesn’t make it, she doesn’t either.”

At the hospital, the doctor’s face was grim. “She’s lost too much blood. She needs a transfusion now — but she’s O-negative, and we’re almost out of that blood type.”

Every head in the room turned toward me.

“Elena’s a match,” Arthur said.

Julian didn’t hesitate. “Then take hers.”

“No.” My voice came out hoarse. “I have cancer. I can’t give blood.”

Julian’s lip curled. “Cancer? You’re still lying — even now? She’s dying in there and you still won’t lift a finger.” He looked at me like I was something he’d scraped off his shoe. “You make me sick.”

The doctor stepped forward. “She has a persistent high fever, and her body is extremely weak. Drawing blood from her could kill her.”

Nolan didn’t blink. “Chloe’s life is worth more than hers. Hold her down and take it.”

The bodyguards pinned my arms. The needle went in.

A nurse came running with her medical file, breathless. “She has cancer — terminal. She absolutely cannot give blood!”
