My Reborn Ex Dumped Me Again. Joke’s on Him, I Married Better Chapter 05

Dorian turned his head slightly, his gaze sweeping past Grayson with no particular interest. “Picking up my bride.”

Two words. Utterly indifferent.

Grayson’s expression flickered, his eyes raking over Dorian, unable to reconcile this imposing, patrician figure with the bedridden, wheezing Harrington elder he remembered.

“Impossible,” Grayson blurted. “The Harrington patriarch is past seventy. Who are you?”

“Who told you there’s only one elder in the Harrington family?”

Grayson went mute.

My mother scurried forward, wringing her hands. “Mr. Harrington… you’re here for Seraphina? But we were told it was a deathbed wedding…”

“A deathbed wedding?” The temperature in his voice could have frozen the driveway. “Who told you this was a deathbed wedding?”

My mother shrank back half a step under his stare, her lips trembling, no words coming out.

Dorian didn’t spare her another glance. He walked toward me.

He stopped and stood before me, looking down.

I lifted my eyes and met his gaze.

Across two lifetimes, this was the first time I had ever seen him.

In my last life, when I married Grayson, all I heard was that not long after Celeste took her own life, the old man she was meant to marry for a deathbed ritual had died too.

I never even learned what that “old man” looked like.

But the person standing in front of me now…

“Seraphina Vance?” He spoke my name with a hint of careful inquiry.

“Yes.”

He studied me for a few seconds, then unexpectedly took the small suitcase from my hand and

passed it to the driver behind him.

Then he turned to my parents. “I’m taking her.”

My mother tugged at my father’s sleeve, her voice dropped to a frantic whisper. “What… what is

going on? Wasn’t she supposed to marry that dying patriarch? How…”

My father’s face had gone ashen, but in front of Dorian Harrington, he didn’t dare utter a single

word.

The motorcade Dorian had brought clogged the entire street. The crowd of onlookers swelled, phones held high, camera flashes popping.

Celeste’s face had drained of color. She clutched Grayson’s sleeve, her voice shaking. “Grayson, this isn’t right… this isn’t right. How can she marry someone like him? What gives her the right?”

Grayson said nothing.

He watched Dorian open the Maybach’s door for me. He watched me bend to climb inside. He watched the motorcade begin to roll away.

And then a thought struck him.

In his last life, when Celeste was sent to the Harringtons for that deathbed wedding, he had never once laid eyes on the so–called “Harrington patriarch.”

Grayson spun around and stared at Celeste.

She flinched under his gaze, her eyes instantly welling up. “Grayson, why are you looking at me like

that?”

He remembered the day Celeste poisoned herself in his last life. He had rushed to the hospital, but she was already in the morgue.

He had knelt on the floor and wept all night, hating himself for failing to protect her, hating Seraphina for stealing her place, hating everyone.

But what if…

What if, from the very start, Celeste had never been meant to marry some dying old man at all?

The thought drove into his skull like a needle.

He shook his head hard and forced it away.

Impossible.
