My Parents Faked Their Deaths to Punish Me Chapter 07

Guilt flooded Shane’s eyes.

“Lily… don’t be angry. It really was our fault back then. We’ll change. From now on, spend money however you want.

“Yes, yes—whatever you’ve ever wanted, we’ll get it for you now!”

My mother, as if reminded, grabbed my father and hustled him out of the room without another word.

My brother sat down beside my bed, his gaze falling on my pale face. His voice was soft, full of concern, “Lily, I know you’ve suffered. From now on, Mom, Dad, and I won’t be stubborn anymore.

“Don’t worry about your illness—we have money. I’ll find the best doctors and the best medicine for you.”

I smiled, indifferent.

“Where were you all before? What if I hadn’t gotten sick? How long were you planning to punish me?”

His voice cracked, hoarse with emotion.

“We never expected you to do so much for the family… these past five years, everything we did was for your future. We were afraid you’d grow up spoiled and vain, unprepared for hard times.”

“But you know… our family could spend money forever and never run out.” My nose burned. Tears slid down the corners of my eyes.

“Because Mom and Dad had a hard childhood, you wanted me to be frugal. But… have I ever wasted money? Even in our social circle, I’ve always been considered careful with spending, haven’t I?”

“Lily… what gift do you want? I’ll buy it for you,” he said, shifting the conversation. He wiped the tears from my cheeks with a tissue. “Anything you want, I’ll get it for you.”

I tilted my head away from his hand, a bitter laugh escaping me.

“It’s fine… whatever I wanted, you already gave to Charlene. Right now… I only want to survive.”

His throat tightened, words failing him. Only his apologetic gaze lingered on my face.

After a long moment, the hospital door opened again. My parents came in, carrying bags and parcels, forcing smiles onto their faces.

“Lily, look! Maybe you’ll like something!”

One by one, they presented the items.

“The latest phone, limited-edition bags, and even that diamond necklace you wanted before…”

They rattled off a dozen things, but I remained indifferent, my eyes never drifting toward them.

My mother’s voice grew quieter. Finally, she choked up.

“Lily… tell us what you want, okay? Don’t ignore Mom…”

I finally spoke, my voice lighter than a feather, ‘Take me to the studio. There’s something I want to do.’
