My Mother Paid 100,000 For A Makeup Artist, He Sent Her To His Sister Chapter 06

“If Ruby is upset, we’ll have Lila wash off her makeup before she goes to the wedding.”

“And afterward, we’ll make sure Nolan gives Ruby a proper apology.”

Nolan finally seemed to realize that the situation was spiraling beyond his control. His tone softened as he began pleading with me.

“Baby, baby, I was wrong. I shouldn’t have put you through this today.”

“I’ll have Lila wash her face right now. Can we please go to the venue first? Everyone is waiting for us.”

Even now, he still didn’t understand what he had done wrong. He only wanted me to stop “making a scene” so I would protect his pride and let the wedding continue.

Brooke had held back long enough. She pointed at Nolan and let him have it.

“Are you completely out of your mind? What were you thinking, sending the makeup artist Mrs. Bennett paid $15,000 to book to some random woman first?”

“The nerve of you. Did you think you could walk all over Ruby just because she has a good temper? And who

exactly is this pathetic act supposed to fool?”

“You don’t even know who should come first. Anyone watching this would think you were marrying Lila.”

Nolan stood there and took the abuse without saying a word.

Lila stepped forward as though she wanted to say something, but he grabbed her and pulled her back.

“Lila, go wash your face.”

I ignored all of it. Without looking at him, I turned to my parents.

“We do owe an explanation to the friends and relatives who traveled here. Dad, take me to the venue.”

Nolan relaxed slightly when he realized I was still willing to go.

Thinking the two sides had reached some kind of agreement, the wedding coordinator who had arrived with Nolan cautiously stepped forward.

“So the ceremony is still going ahead? Should we keep filming the bride’s departure?”

“Yes.”

“No.”

Nolan and I answered at the same time.

I looked at him and made the final decision.

“Don’t film any of that. The photographer assigned to me can keep following me.”

“Everything else is on hold.”

Nolan studied my expression and didn’t dare argue.

I didn’t get into the chauffeured wedding car that had come for me. My mother, Brooke, and Hannah joined

me in the car my father was driving.

My cousins followed in their own cars, and together we headed for the venue.

The chauffeured wedding car, trimmed with white ribbons and flowers, sat empty without the bride it had

come for.

Only then did Nolan begin to feel genuine regret. Fear that he might lose Ruby closed around him until he

could barely breathe.

He had dared to make the decision behind everyone’s back and send the celebrity makeup artist to Lila first

because he had always relied on Ruby’s love for him.

But now, as he watched Ruby in her white dress, unable to hide the disappointment and coldness in her eyes, he was no longer certain she would forgive him.

As the line of cars carrying the wedding party prepared to leave, Lila tried to get into the chauffeured car.

For once, Nolan stopped her firmly.

“Lila, call a rideshare. Ruby doesn’t want you there.”

Lila swayed slightly. Water had streaked her carefully applied makeup across her face, and she forced a stiff

smile.

“Okay,” she murmured.

She looked like a clown trying not to cry.

The ceremony had been scheduled to begin at eleven.

Since I had canceled every earlier part of the wedding schedule, we had plenty of time.

Many of the guests still hadn’t arrived, so while we waited, we went straight to the private suite behind the

ballroom.

When Nolan’s parents heard that I had halted the entire wedding schedule, they hurried over.

The moment Mrs. Pierce arrived, she grabbed my mother’s hand.

“Oh, Mrs. Bennett, surely you don’t need to stop the entire wedding over something this small.”

“Every marriage has its rough patches.”

“Ruby has shown her future husband no respect at all. We certainly don’t want a daughter-in-law with a

temper like hers.”
