My Missing Boyfriend Was Alive, So I Chose His Best Friend Chapter 15

I stared at the deposit notification and let myself grin.

Gavin said, “If you wanted money, I could give you money.”

“It’s not the same. This is what I’m owed.” I’d never chased Tyler’s family wealth, or Gavin’s. But

what was rightfully mine? I wouldn’t bat an eye taking it.

“So now what?” Gavin asked. “Are you actually going to forgive them?”

“Yeah. I have to. They paid for it.” Basic decency, right? I filmed a forgiveness video. Except- surprise-I cried. Again. My mouth said the words “I forgive him.”

My tears never stopped for a single second. I guarantee that video didn’t earn Tyler a drop of sympathy from anyone online.

Tyler used to hate how much I cried. He never understood my tear ducts are just overactive and my emotions run deep. It never meant I was weak.

Christmas came. Gavin and I walked hand in hand downtown. He stopped in front of a boba tea shop. “The first time I saw you was right there.”

It was the same shop where I’d worked part-time freshman year.

“I was having a crap day. I went in, sat down, and you brought me a cup of water.”

Gavin remembered that day, a soft smile crinkling the corners of his eyes. “You told me I didn’t have to buy anything-the manager was gone, so I could just rest.”

I scratched the back of my head. “I remember. I thought you couldn’t afford the tea. Little did I know you could’ve bought the entire shop…”

Gavin laughed. “Then you grabbed a handful of snacks and went outside to feed the stray cats. I’ve

never forgotten that.”

He’d come back later to introduce himself properly, but I’d already quit. He searched until he finally found me—already Tyler’s girlfriend. He didn’t say a word that day. Just lowered his

stinging eyes and stood there alone.

For two years, he’d watched me hug Tyler, tease him, lean on him. None of that was the worst part.

The worst part was watching Tyler not treasure me at all.

To Gavin, I was priceless, someone out of reach. To Tyler, I was just an annoying accessory.

Gavin had torn himself apart, caught between decency and wanting. Then Tyler handed him the chance on a silver platter. To hell with decency. Gavin thought, Let them curse me into the ground.

I’m still taking my shot.

I shook my head in amazement. “Gavin, with that kind of determination, you could succeed at

anything.”

“Yeah.” He fixed his gaze on me. “So take me with you when you study abroad. Please?”

I blinked. “How did you know…”
