Princess Lila: [Hot tip—Hailey was crying again yesterday. A coworker caught her.]

Servant #1 Tyler: [I heard about that too.]

Princess Lila: [See? My plan’s working. Ty, you owe me dinner.]

This was the group for Tyler’s little circle—him, Lila, and the others. Four guys total. Three labeled as servants. The fourth was Gavin, who just used his real name.

I remembered Tyler once telling me Gavin joined their clique later on, though he never said why. My guess? Hayes Group was huge, with investments everywhere. People like Tyler and Lila would’ve actively pulled him in.

Gavin barely said anything in the chat. It was almost entirely Tyler playing off Lila.

Servant #1 Tyler: [Dinner? When have I not treated you? I basically handed you a whole debit card—Hailey used to fight with me nonstop about that.]

Princess Lila: [Omg that still cracks me up. What are she and I? We’ve been ride-or-die since we were kids. Who the hell is she to get jealous?]

It made me want to vomit. I scrolled up. They talked like this almost every day. I couldn’t tell if I was reading a group chat or watching them flirt.

Every time Tyler showed up late for a date, it traced back to Lila. The night I sat alone in the ER on an IV drip, he was with her. Even the Valentine’s Day gift he gave me had been something Lila rejected first.

New messages popped up. Tyler was messaging Gavin privately.

Tyler: [Yo, I just remembered something.]

I copied Gavin’s minimalist style. [?]

Tyler: [Two months ago, on Lila’s birthday—I got trashed and crashed at her place. Do NOT let this slip. Remember, that night I was with you the whole time, got it?]

I typed four slow words. [What are you two?]

Tyler: [Dude, I told you we’re not talking about that. Lila and I both agreed that night never happened. Otherwise how the hell are we supposed to stay friends?]
