My Mate Sent Me to Asylum Chapter 08

My Mate Sent Me to Asylum Chapter 08

Landon and I had already moved into our new place.

Charles stood in front of me. Breathing hard. He didn’t even glance at Landon. His eyes were locked on

“Nova. What happened to you in that place. It was all real?”

His voice shook. His eyes were wet.

I didn’t know how he’d found us. But he wasn’t welcome.

“Mr. Blackwood. Stay out of my life.”

My voice was ice. But Charles just crumbled.

“I’m sorry. I didn’t know.”

“I thought you’d be safe in there. Just until things cooled down. Then I’d bring you home.”

He was crying now.

He thought I’d just sit in a room. Wait for him.

I yanked my sleeve up. Showed him the scars. “This is from when I broke the window to escape.”

I pointed at my face. “This is from when I passed out. The fire got me before they pulled me out. The

doctors said another minute and I’d have been gone.”

Charles’s face was red. Wet.

“I’m sorry. I didn’t… I’m so sorry.” He sobbed.

I laughed. “Charles. You put that syringe in my pocket. What are you pretending for now?”

“What do you want? Tell me. I’ll do anything.”

He wanted forgiveness. My voice stayed flat.

“Clear my name. Tell everyone the truth. You and Iris framed me.”

“Okay.” He said it without hesitation. “I’ll do it.”

He came back every day after that. Apologizing.

The internet moved fast. Within a week, they’d pieced together the whole story.

[I can’t believe it was her own mate who did it.]

[And what about Iris? She married her teacher’s mate. That’s not weird to anyone?]

The more they dug, the worse it got. Iris’s past was laid bare.

The competition judge got investigated. The hospital staff got investigated.

Seven years later, the truth was finally coming out.

I thought Charles would bury me again. But he didn’t.

He posted the evidence himself.

“I planted the syringe. I wronged Nova.”

The case flipped. Police opened an investigation.

I’d accused Iris of setting the hospital fire.

“You have no proof.” She stood in the station, defiant.

The cops dropped the evidence in front of her. “Arson. Attempted murder. That’s your proof.”

Charles didn’t know about the fire. He wasn’t charged.

But the internet didn’t forgive. He walked out of that station to a storm of hatred.

Charles followed me.

“You said you’d forgive me.”

I stopped at the station steps.

My mother stood there. Face worn. Tired.

She walked toward me. Slowly.

“Nova…”

“Come home.”

She didn’t apologize. But her hand reached out. Her eyes begged.

My throat tightened. I looked up.

Landon was waiting under a tree. Not far.

I lowered my head. Didn’t look at her.

“Luna. Take care of yourself.”

I walked past her outstretched hand.

Nova died in that fire.

I ran to Landon. Grabbed his hand.

My life was somewhere else now. Far away from all of them.
