My Love Inappropriate. Her Scandal Take the Blame. Get Lost, Uncle! I Married the Mad Alpha! Chapter 04

Sofia burst into the room, her cloying gardenia scent turning chaotic with fear.

“Irene, you just don’t want Adrian and me together, do you? Fine. I’ll call off the engagement. Just leave me alone, please.”

Adrian immediately pulled her into his arms and murmured soothing words to calm her.

When he looked at me again, there was actually a plea in his eyes.

“Post a statement, Irene. Say you were the one who leaked those stories. Once the scandal dies down, no one will remember it for long.”

The online harassment I had endured years earlier flashed through my mind, and all the color drained from my face.

“I didn’t do it, and I will not confess to something I didn’t do.”

I stopped looking at them and pulled out the suitcase I had packed the night before.

The first photograph Adrian and I had taken after I joined the Carter family lay at the top. I picked it up.

“If I prove I don’t love you anymore, will you finally believe I had nothing to do with this?”

Then I tore the photograph in half.

Adrian’s expression changed instantly.

I picked up a couture gown, the gift he had given me for my eighteenth birthday. The scissors closed, and the sound of silk tearing cut sharply through the room.

Photographs, gifts, concert tickets, souvenir pins. Every one of them held a record of the obsessive, burning love I had once felt for him.

I had once treasured every one of them. Now I destroyed them one by one.

The Alpha dominance Adrian was suppressing grew so violent that the framed pictures on the wall trembled.

He stepped forward and seized my wrist.

“Enough, Irene.”

I looked up at him without a trace of emotion.

Sofia forced a strained smile.

“Why are you doing this? You’re making it look as if I’m forcing you.” She tugged gently at Adrian’s sleeve, her voice soft. “Forget it. Stop pressuring her. Even if she really did it, I’ll soon be Uncle Adrian’s mate. I can forgive her.”

I did not want to hear another word.

“Is there anything else? If not, I’d like to rest.”

Adrian looked as if he wanted to speak, but once again, he said nothing. Sofia pulled him toward the door.

I was about to close it when a man clutching a paring knife charged from the far end of the hallway.

“Sofia Bennett, you drove my sister out of school and took away her will to live! Today, you’re going to pay for what you did to her!”

Adrian reacted instantly, wrapping an arm around Sofia’s waist and shielding her as he pulled her aside.

But I was standing directly behind him.

The force of his movement knocked me away and sent me straight into the blade.

Cold steel plunged into my chest.

Blood soaked through my clothes in seconds, and my legs gave out beneath me. I slid down the doorframe to the floor.

A werewolf should have healed far faster than a human, but the blade had been coated with silver powder to suppress healing.

As a red haze swallowed my blurring vision, I saw Adrian whip around.

His cedar scent exploded out of control, and the roar of an enraged Alpha shook the entire hallway.

His lips moved.

It looked as if he was screaming my name.
