My Life For Her Happy Ending Chapter 01

My Life For Her Happy Ending Chapter 01

My sister and I died in the same car accident. On the edge of death, a cold mechanical voice rang out of nowhere.

[If you successfully complete your family quest, you will be revived.]

From that day on, every ounce of love in our house went to my sister.

Chloe casually mentioned that the master bedroom had better light. Mom moved to the guest room that same afternoon.

Chloe said she wanted to be an only child.Dad used his connections to erase me from the family records.

When Chloe admitted she was jealous of my boyfriend of five years, the whole family took turns convincing me to step aside.

I clenched my fists and turned to look at him.

“Ethan, is that what you want too?”

He stroked my hair, his voice soft and patient.

“Sweetheart, it’s just for show. The only way your sister gets to live is if her wishes come true.”

I stumbled backward, desperate and shaking.

“We have the same quest! If I fail, I die too!”

The moment the words left my mouth, every face in the room turned cold.

“Mia, you’d make up any lie just to get attention.”

“If failing means death, then why are you still standing here?”

Fine.

If that’s what they wanted.

The system’s voice came again, flat and emotionless.

[Mia, quest failed. Elimination initiated.]

After I died, my soul drifted to my boyfriend’s wedding.

Ethan stood at the altar in a dark gray suit, a silver pin on his lapel—the one I’d spent three weekends hunting for across the city.

He held Chloe’s hand, leading her step by step down the white rose aisle I’d dreamed about a thousand times.

Mom and Dad sat in the front row, tears of relief streaming down their faces.

“Our daughter finally completed her quest. She’s not going to die.”

As the guests cheered, Ethan dipped his head and kissed Chloe.

Through the haze, I remembered our fifth anniversary. I’d planned everything a week in advance. Then Chloe said one word, and he’d left me behind to take her camping in the mountains to watch the meteor shower.

“Anniversaries can happen any day. But Chloe has a quest. If I don’t go, she dies.”

On my birthday, I’d worked up the courage to ask my parents for one dinner together. They’d said yes—then turned around and took Chloe to a singing competition across town.

My quiet, homebody parents waved glow sticks in the front row, shouting until their voices went hoarse.

Scene after scene flooded through me. Even as a ghost, the ache in my chest was so heavy I could barely breathe.

The ceremony ended. The guests drifted away.

Chloe clung to Ethan’s arm, her voice pitched just loud enough for me to hear.

“I guess my little sister is still sulking. Can’t even be bothered to show up on such an important day.”

Mom’s face hardened, thick with disappointment and anger.

“That girl is nothing but a jealous brat. She watches Chloe being sweet and perfect, and she can’t stand it. All that nonsense about failing her quest and dying—just an act. Another tantrum.”

I hovered inches away, hearing every word. A bitter smile twisted across my face.

Mom. I wasn’t lying.

I really was going to die.

Ethan unpinned the boutonniere from his chest, hesitating.

“Maybe I should go talk to her. Explain it’s just a quest. Mia’s not unreasonable.”

Dad cut him off.

“We raised her for twenty years. Don’t you think we know her by now? She’s spoiled and dramatic. Ignore her. She’ll get over it in a few days.”

Ethan opened his mouth again, but Chloe grabbed his hand and smiled, tugging him toward the door.

“Ethan, forget about that. Let’s pick out our wedding photos. Everyone’s waiting.”

He paused for two seconds, then gave in.

“You’re right. We’ll let Mia cool off first.”

I floated there, watching the three of them leave, the pain blooming fresh in my chest.

Once upon a time, if I so much as frowned, Ethan would drop everything to comfort me. Every careless word I said, he remembered.

But now, with three sentences between them, they’d signed my character away.

Dramatic. Selfish. Desperate for attention. A liar.

Not one of them noticed the soft, sweet Chloe beside them, hiding a small, victorious smile.
