My Husband’s Other Self Loved Me Chapter 11

My Husband’s Other Self Loved Me Chapter 11

He sat in a chair, looking a little stiff, a little expectant.

He reminded me of the first time we met at that corner café

after high school.

That day, he had clearly rehearsed a dozen things to say, but when he saw me, his face still turned bright red.

“Hi, Greer.”

“When you see this, you should be awake.”

“Does your leg still hurt? Is your head still dizzy?”

“I’m so sorry. I didn’t protect you.”

“I promised you that as long as I was here, I wouldn’t let you get hurt again.”

He paused and forced an awkward smile.

“But it’s okay.”

“You’re free now.”

“I faked the news of your death and found a body to take

your place.”

“Malachi won’t be fooled for long, but this will buy me

enough time to finish what I need to do.”

He lifted his eyes and looked directly into the camera.

“Greer, I remember you said in college that you wanted to go to Troms to see the northern lights.”

“You said that when people stood beneath a sky that vast,

a lot of things that seemed impossible to get through would suddenly feel smaller.”

“You also said you wanted to spend your limited time on

things that truly mattered.”

“So that when you grew old and were sitting in a rocking chair, you could tell yourself your life hadn’t been a waste.”

“You shouldn’t be trapped in a place like this.”

“And you definitely shouldn’t waste your life on a rotten

person.”

“So Greer, when you’ve healed, just leave.”

“Go do all the things you’ve always wanted to do but never

had the chance.”

“This time, live for yourself.”
