My Husband’s Ex-Girlfriend Is Sleeping in Our Marriage Bed Chapter 01

Julian stepped out of the bathroom, sleeves rolled up to his elbows, drying his hands with my light gray towel.

He froze when he saw me.

“You’re back.”

I smiled, my voice even flatter than his.

“If I hadn’t come back, would I have been expected to make breakfast for the three of you tomorrow morning?”

The air in the room turned to ice.

Vivian’s eyes instantly welled with tears. She pulled the child closer and whispered, “Sloane, please don’t misunderstand. I didn’t have a choice. Leo has a high fever and every hotel is booked. I just got back to the States—I don’t know anyone here but Julian.”

She called him “Julian” with an effortless intimacy.

As if she had never left.

Julian frowned and walked over to me, lowering his voice. “Her ex-husband is stalking her. It isn’t safe for her and the boy. They’re staying here for a few days.”

“A few days?”

I looked at him, finding the whole thing hysterical.

“Julian, this is my home, not a refugee camp. If you want to be a saint, take her to a hotel, your corporate apartment, or any of your other properties. You brought her into our master bedroom, put her in my bed, and now you’re asking for ‘a few days’?”

He looked guilty for a split second, and his tone softened.

“The boy is sick. This room faces south; it’s warmer. Just sleep in the guest room for tonight. I’ll figure it out tomorrow.”

I stared at him for a long moment before nodding slowly.

“Fine.”

He let out a visible sigh of relief.

A second later, I leaned down, grabbed his pillow and coat from the side of the bed, and shoved them into his arms.

Julian’s face darkened. “Sloane.”

“What?” I looked him dead in the eye. “You can’t let your old flame stay in the master bedroom all by herself, can you? If the kid cries tonight and the ex isn’t around, his ‘old friend’ needs to be there for him. If you feel mistreated, I can always throw you both out right now.”

Vivian bit her lip, and the tears finally spilled over.

“This is all my fault. Don’t fight because of me. Sloane, if you’re unhappy, I’ll take Leo and leave right now.”

She said she was leaving, but she didn’t move an inch.

She held the child with a practiced desperation, waiting to be saved.

Sure enough, Julian slammed her suitcase shut, his voice turning cold.

“It’s the middle of the night. Where are you going to go with a sick child?”

Then he turned to me.

“Stop making a scene.”

I stared at him for two seconds and burst out laughing.

“I’m making a scene?”

I pointed at the woman and child on the bed, my voice dropping to a whisper.

“It’s our anniversary. You stood me up. You ignored my calls and texts. Now you bring your ex and her son into my bed and tell me not to make a scene? Julian, you really are a creative husband.”

I turned and walked away.

I didn’t look back at him, and I didn’t touch the ruined cake.

As I shut the door, I heard Vivian’s soft, airy voice: “Julian, don’t let me come between you two.”

I paused for a heartbeat outside the door and scoffed.

She’s already in the master bedroom. Is it just “feelings” she’s coming between?
