My Husband Sold My Innocence Fifteen Times Chapter 07

My Husband Sold My Innocence Fifteen Times Chapter 07

The body hadn’t been recovered. There was nothing more they could do at the station, so the police took their statements, told them to go home, and promised to call

Liam drove like he had a death wish, missing turns, running

lights, barely seeing the road

Ethan wasn’t any better, slumped in the passenger seat, looking like something inside him had been hollowed out. The tears hadn’t stopped. He didn’t bother wiping them

anymore

Every time Audrey’s smile surfaced in his mind, the pain ripped through him fresh, like something vital was being

ripped out of his chest with bare hands

Neither of them went back to the hospital. Neither of them

thought of Chloe

Grief had swallowed both of them whole. Inside the

mansion, Ethan sank to the living room floor, clutching

Audrey’s photo to his chest

He kept saying her name, over and over. Audrey I’m going

to bring you home, okay?”

The same words on a loop, like a prayer he couldn’t stop

saying. Upstairs, Liam went to Audrey’s old room

Her scent was still there, faint, lingering, everywhere. He

collapsed facefirst onto the bed, arms wrapped around her

pillow like it might turn into her if he held on tight enough

But she was gone. He would never touch her again. He would never see her again

They stayed like that for three days, like two ghosts drifting through empty rooms

On the third day, the police called about the paperwork, the

identificationall the cold bureaucracy that came with death

Liam dragged himself off the bed, his head heavy as

concrete, and pulled open drawer after drawer looking for

Audrey’s documents

His hand clipped the edge of the laptop, and the screen

flickered to life. A video started playing, queued up and

waiting, as if it had been left there on purpose. He ignored it

at first. Then he heard the voice

How do you think Ethan and Liam will react when they see

this?”

A sharp crack cut through the room

Liam’s head snapped toward the screen

On the screen, Chloe slapped herself across the face, hard

and deliberate, then turned and ran, tears already in place

straight to him. Liam’s blood went cold. His hand found the

mouse and clicked to the next file

One video after another. Every single incidentthe slaps, the

torn dresses, the chopped hair, the rumorsall of it staged

Performed and weaponized by Chloe. Every last one

designed to destroy Audrey

Ethan had been standing in the doorway the whole time

He’d seen everything. The rage that hit him was so sudden

and complete it turned his vision white

Years. They’d spent years punishing the wrong person

Audrey had been telling the truth, every single time, and

they’d chosen Chloe

Audrey had tried to tell them. Again and again, she’d tried. And every time, they’d refused to listen and believed the lie

Liam was out the door before the last video finished. He

drove to the hospital like he was possessed. Ethan was right

behind him the whole way

At the hospital, Liam didn’t knock, he kicked the hospital

room door open so hard it cracked against the wall

Chloe barely had time to arrange her face into that usual

helpless look before Liam had a hand around her throat

We gave you everything! We treated you like family! And

this is what you did you framed her?”

For years for years you’ve been lying to our faces! You

killed her. You did this.”

Chloe’s eyes went wide, real shock for once, as Liam’s grip

tightened, and tightened some more

Then something shifted in her face. The mask slipped. Tears

leaked from the corners of her eyes, but she was laughing

high, sharp, unhinged

You want to talk about who really killed her? Look in the

mirror. If you had really loved her, how could a few words

from me be enough to make you turn on her?”

You did this to yourselves.”

Liam’s jaw locked. He let go of her, or rather, threw her, and

she hit the floor. He didn’t know if the fire in his chest was

rage at her or shame at himself. Maybe there wasn’t

difference anymore

He called in the guards and gave the order without

hesitation, send her to the underground auction house. Let

her find out what three years in that place had really felt

like

Audrey’s body still hadn’t been found

Every day after that, Ethan and Liam went to the river. They

stood at the railing for hours, watching the water, waiting for

someone who wasn’t coming back

If either of them had had even a shred less sanity left, they

would have gone in after her, not to save her, but to follow

her.
