My Husband Saved My Cousin Instead of Me Chapter 12

My Husband Saved My Cousin Instead of Me Chapter 12

“Grandpa, I want a divorce.”

Reginald let out a heavy sigh. “You’re a good kid. But you two fought like hell to get here. Are you really

willing to toss it all away?”

“You’ve looked into my background. You know exactly what my parents are like. And with a few words, Gavin

told the whole world that someone else was Mrs. West.”

Reginald was speechless. “Gavin hates what his father did more than anything-the cheating, the chaos, the

way it got his mother killed. And now look at him. Just as blind.”

“Back then, you didn’t just save him. You saved me too. If you want a divorce, Grandpa won’t stop you. I’ll

give you an additional fifty million dollars in compensation. You’ll never have to worry again.”

I took the marriage certificate and the bank card, my feelings a tangled mess.

Back when Gavin and I were together, the West family was tearing itself apart. I took a knife for him. Almost

bled out on the floor.

And when Reginald’s heart stopped, I was the one who dropped to my knees and pumped his chest for an

hour straight-kept him alive until the ambulance finally showed up.

This money was what I’d earned.

I left the manor and went straight to Whitfield & Associates.

Gavin wouldn’t agree to the divorce, so my only option was the legal route.

He sent a flood of check-in texts.

[Baby, dinner with Cecilia is just for show.]

[Baby, that magazine cover shoot was kind of cool. Next time I’ll bring you.]

[Baby, why aren’t you texting back? You’re making me lose my mind.]

I stared at the photo Cecilia sent me. The two of them were practically glued to each other. After a long

pause, I forwarded it to Gavin.

[A match made in heaven. You two seriously have that couple look.]

Less than five seconds later, my phone rang. I hung up. It rang again. I hung up again.

I didn’t go home. I went to The Langdon Hotel, the best five-star in the city, and checked into the presidential

suite

Getting tossed out of the house as a kid does something to you. It leaves you with zero sense of security-

the kind that never really comes back.

So even when I was with Gavin, even when he showered me with money and gifts and never asked for a thing in return, I still worked multiple side jobs. I stashed away every dollar I could. Because deep down, I always knew the truth-none of it was really mine. It was his. And one word from him could take it all away-and I’d have nothing. No house. No money. No place to go.

Luckily, I’d always kept my investments hidden from Gavin. I’d put serious money behind a junior from the computer science department. He was deep into Al research, and he’d just had a major breakthrough.

Maybe that’s how the universe balances things out. Your marriage implodes, but hey-here’s a fortune. Fair

trade.

A call came through from an unknown number. It was Dylan. He said Gavin had completely lost it-went after Cecilia, demanding to know why the hell she’d sent me that photo.

“Sage, he hurt you like that. Do you want to get even?”

I paused, then laughed. “So you’re hitting on me to get back at Gavin?”

“Isn’t that perfect? I know you used to be into me.”

God, the arrogance. It actually made me sick.

I cut him off. “Dylan, whatever I felt for you back then barely even counted as a crush. So spare me the ego

trip. That said, there’s something you might want to see.”

Dylan’s family used to live next door. His parents were always kind to me, and his little sister would give me

the sweetest smile every time she saw me.

Too bad by the time I had the means to help, it was too late. His sister was dead. His parents had wrecked

their bodies working multiple jobs to pay off his debts. And Dylan? He never even went to see them.

When he came back, it never even crossed his mind to go see them. I sent the photos over. Dylan was

shell-shocked. His father had lost a leg. His mother’s hair had gone completely white.

A choked sob came through the line. My voice carried zero emotion. “So, why don’t we make a deal?”
