My Husband Locked Me Out of Our Home for Another Woman Chapter 08

My Husband Locked Me Out of Our Home for Another Woman Chapter 08

Caldwell Urban Development launched an out-of-state hospitality and tourism development project and Marcus Caldwell asked who was willing to take a long-term on-site assignment.

No one in the conference room raised a hand.

I pushed my application forward.

“I’ll go.”

Marcus looked at me.

“You turned it down before because of your wedding date.”

“There are no personal conflicts in the way now.”

He nodded.

“It’ll be a tough project, but there’s a real promotion opportunity.”

“I accept.”

That afternoon, Nolan sent flowers to the office.

Harper from the front desk called me.

“Ms. Hart, someone sent white roses.”

I said, “Return them.”

The next day, he sent stomach medicine and hot soup.

The delivery driver announced that Mr. Whitmore was worried about my stomach, I asked Harper to put the

items beside the recycling bins.

On the third day, he sent me a new home purchase plan.

The title read: [master Bedroom Designed Around Your Preferences.]

I did not open it.

Claire messaged me.

Claire: [Men often regret things after they lose the asset, never while they’re actually breaking your heart.]

I replied: [Noted in the ledger.]

On the day of the project presentation, the client approved the preliminary proposal on the spot.

Marcus patted my shoulder.

“Get ready for the on-site assignment. The appointment will go through next week.”

I walked out of the office.

Nolan was waiting downstairs, holding a new cashmere throw blanket.

The moment he saw me, he hurried over.

“Elena, this one is new.”

I stopped.

My coworkers walked past us.

Nolan held the blanket up in front of me.

“I gave the old one back to Sienna. This one is for you.”

I looked at the blanket.

“You still think this was about the blanket?”

He grew anxious.

“I know it wasn’t. I just wanted to make it up to you. I bought your medicine. I cleared out the master

bedroom. We can buy a new place.”

I asked, “For whom to sleep in?”

His face changed.

“For you. Only you.”

“How long is the shelf life on your promises?”

His voice lowered.

“I was wrong before.”

I walked toward the elevator.

He shifted half a step and blocked me.

“The new place will be under your name. We’ll redo the vows are even exchanged. If you want red roses, we’ll use red roses. No one will change anything.”

I looked at him.

“You don’t understand.”

“What don’t I understand?”

“I wasn’t missing a blanket, and I wasn’t missing a wedding. I was missing a home where I could sleep without fear.”

He answered immediately

“I’ll give you that.

I said, “You can’t.”

The elevator doors opened.

My coworkers and I stepped inside.

Nolan lunged forward and pressed his hand against the elevator door.

“Elena, I’ve cut things off with Sienna.”

I held the close button.

“Then go take a shower. That sounds like a personal hygiene issue to me.”

My coworker lowered her head, trying not to laugh.

Nolan’s face stiffened.

The doors slid shut.

That night, the appointment notice arrived in my inbox.

I would leave for the on-site assignment next week.

Nolan sent another message.

Nolan: [I’ll wait downstairs at your office.]

I replied: [Don’t. I’m leaving this city.]

His call came immediately.

I blocked him.

He used another number to text me.

Unknown Number: [Do you really have to make this so final?]

I sent one last reply.

Elena: [You blocked the road. I’m just changing direction.]

After sending it, I blocked that number too.

He was still trying to repair that master bedroom.

I no longer lived in that city.
