My Husband Locked Me Out of Our Home for Another Woman Chapter 04

My Husband Locked Me Out of Our Home for Another Woman Chapter 04

At nine the next morning, I went to the bank.

The staff member wrote the mortgage prepayment penalty on a sheet of paper.

“Ms. Hart, this is not a small amount. Are you sure you want to proceed?”

I signed my name.

“I’m sure.”

She reminded me again.

“Once the lien is released, the property can be sold.”

I handed over my ID.

“I know.”

When I walked out of the bank, Nolan sent me a message : [What do you want for lunch?]

I replied: [Come home early tonight. We need to talk about the condo.]

He replied: [Okay. This time, I’ll really listen.]

I put my phone in my pocket.

That afternoon, Naomi brought the buyers to view the condo.

Before they arrived, I had packed Sienna’s pill organizer, sleep machine, essential oil diffuser, and slippers into a clear bag.

I placed the bag by the entryway.

The buyer’s wife noticed the silk sheets in the master bedroom.

“They’ve been kept in great condition. Could they stay?”

I said, “The bedding isn’t included.”

Her husband glanced toward the balcony.

“Why are you selling in such a hurry?”

I handed him a copy of the deed.

“I’m preparing to move to another city.”

Naomi pulled me aside.

“You’ve lowered the price so much they may still try to negotiate.”

“They’re paying cash. The price is negotiable.”

She looked at me.

“You’ve really made up your mind.”

“Yes.”

At dusk, Nolan came home.

He saw the storage bins in the living room.

“Are you organizing wedding supplies?”

I placed the settlement spreadsheet on the coffee table.

“Sit.”

When he saw the spreadsheet, his expression changed.

“Elena, are you serious?”

“Me sleeping on the couch last night was serious too.”

He sat down.

“Fine. Go ahead.”

I opened the first page.

“The down payment was $450,000. I paid $300,000. You paid $150,000.”

He nodded.

“I acknowledge that.”

“The renovation cost $118,000. I paid it.”

“The larger share of the mortgage came out of my account.”

“The HOA fees, appliances, furnishings, and décor were paid by me.”

He rubbed his brow.

“What’s the point of calculating all this now?”

“There is a point.”

His phone began to vibrate.

Sienna’s name appeared on the screen.

He declined the call.

It rang a second time.

Then a third time, followed by a voice message.

Sienna’s frantic voice filled the room: “Nolan, I’m alone in the master bedroom. It feels like the windows are sinking into the floor. I don’t want to live.”

Nolan stood up.

I stepped in front of him.

“If you leave tonight, there’s nothing left to talk about.”

He grabbed his car keys.

“She’s sick, Elena. Don’t force me to be heartless.”

I looked at him.

“You were pretty heartless the night my stomach hurt.”

His face stiffened.

The door closed.

His footsteps faded.

I opened my banking app.

I entered a transfer amount of $1,500.

A calculated share of several mortgage payments.

A depreciation adjustment for the furniture.

The memo read: [Property and shared expenses settled.]

I confirmed the transfer.

Nolan’s call came in soon after.

I did not answer.

I took the deed, the lien release receipt, my ID, and the spare key.

By the time I reached the escrow office, the couple had already arrived.

Naomi handed the documents to the closing officer.

My phone kept vibrating.

Nolan’s name filled the screen.

The closing officer verified my identity.

“Property owner, Elena . All documents are complete.”

I placed the deed into the tray.

The officer looked up.

“Ms. Hart, do you confirm that you are selling this property voluntarily?”

Nolan’s voice came from behind me.

“Elena, sell this condo and see what happens.”
