My Husband Faked His Death Chapter 09

Lily shrieked. “Who are you? How dare you spy on us?”
Jake looked at Ryan, his face drained of color. His cocky demeanor instantly shifted to a fawning smile. He grabbed Lily and covered her mouth.
“Uncle Ryan, what brings you here? I’m fine. Sorry you had to make the trip.”
“I knew you were fine. I was the one who told Mia you weren’t dead.”
Jake’s expression soured, but he forced a grin. “Right, my bad. I scared Mia. That’s why I’m here today—to apologize. It won’t happen again.”
Ryan’s face remained impassive. He bent down, picked up the divorce agreement, took a pen from his pocket, and handed it to Jake. “Sign it.”
Jake looked confused. “Ryan?”
“We’re not blood related. Sign it. Otherwise, the Sullivan family won’t lift a finger for you.”
At that, Jake finally panicked. He stopped complaining about the asset division and quickly signed the last page. I let out a breath of relief and tucked the agreement into my bag.
I was about to say thank you when Ryan’s gaze met mine. “Mia, I’ll go with you to restore his legal status and then file the divorce.”
I was surprised and instinctively wanted to refuse.
“Don’t say no so fast. If I’m not there, what if he changes his mind and won’t divorce you?”
I thought for a moment. “Alright.”
Then I saw the guests off. Lily refused to leave and insisted on staying by Jake’s side. I didn’t care. I got into Ryan’s car and headed to the Social Security Administration.
