My Husband Faked His Death Chapter 04

On the way, I handed Emma a USB drive containing the videos proving Jake was alive and told her to play them when I signaled.
Only after that did I send out the memorial address.
Ryan arrived first.
He stepped out of his car in a black suit, walked over, took a white silk flower, pinned it to his sleeve, and said, “My condolences,” as if he meant it.
Then came the relatives and friends who didn’t know the truth. Their grief was genuine, and it made my heart ache.
Jake Sullivan, by faking your disappearance, you broke so many hearts. Today, you’ll pay it back, piece by piece.
Next came his so‑called buddies.
Their faces were grim, one after another. Their hands trembled as they took the silk flowers from me.
Finally, one of them pulled me aside.
“Mia! Stop this right now! Jake isn’t dead! He’s been looking for you like crazy! Didn’t you see the missing person report on TV?”
I blinked and forced out two tears. “Don’t try to comfort me. That report was posted by Lily. The dead can’t come back. I won’t keep hoping he’s still alive.”
He tried to say more. I signaled Emma, who pulled him down into a seat.
When most of the guests had arrived, I stepped onto the platform and tested the microphone.
“Thank you all for coming to my late husband’s memorial—”
Before I could finish, a scream cut me off.
“Mia! Are you insane? I told you Jake isn’t dead!”
Lily stood at the entrance, glaring at me.
“Are you even his wife? He’s been missing for three months, no body found, and you’re holding a memorial? I won’t allow it!”
I looked behind her. No sign of Jake. Even now, he still refused to show himself.
I looked down at Lily and said coldly, “You won’t allow it? Who are you to allow anything? You said it yourself—I’m his wife.”
Lily’s eyes widened, tears welling up. “How can you be so cruel? Jake loves you with all his heart, and you just casually declare him dead? What if he’s still alive?”
My eyes drifted to the fading marks on her neck. I smiled. “Even if he is, a cheating husband isn’t worth my time.”
I ordered someone to pull Lily aside and continued with the memorial.
Just as I was about to speak again, a disheveled, gaunt figure appeared at the door.
He stood there, choking back tears. “Dear, I’m not dead. I’ve come back.”
