He looked at the chaos in front of him and finally seemed to understand what he should have understood long ago. 

Maya had been lying to him. 

Evelyn had loved him desperately. Even if he had truly been dead for ten years or twenty years, she would never have 

found another man. 

For three years, she had devoted herself to clearing their 

names. 

How could she have been driven by desire? 

There was only one possibility. 

The baby was his. 

That thought wrapped around Gavin’s heart like a chain and 

hurled it off a bottomless cliff. 

His body was not shattered, but his soul suffered a torment 

even worse than being crushed to pieces. 

The room was in complete chaos. Just then, a well–dressed 

man in a suit walked in with a briefcase. 

He threw several documents onto the table and said with 

absolute certainty, “Mr. Weston, you are under investigation 

for criminal bigamy. Please come with us.” 

“In addition, according to our findings, my client, Ms. Bennett, was deceived by you through fraud and financial 

misrepresentation while she spent years investigating your 

case. The amount taken from her totals more than three 

hundred thousand dollars. We will be pursuing these claims through legal channels.” 

“Furthermore, after my client discovered your affair with your mistress, she tried to communicate with you. Instead, you ignored her. You accused my client of having an affair with 

another man, threw my client’s child into a trash bin and 

desecrated the remains, and knowingly allowed the real 

perpetrator, Ms. Cole, to abuse her access to the nursery and 

give laxatives to every infant there. Then you turned around 

and framed my client, causing her to be beaten half to death 

and left nearly crippled by violent patients‘ relatives.” 

Gavin stood there in a daze, listening to evidence that should 

never have existed. 

It felt as if an ice pick had pierced his heart, sending pain and guilt through every limb. 

What were they saying? 

Evelyn’s baby had been his. 

Evelyn had not harmed his child with Maya. 

When Mr. Bennett Sr. and Mrs. Bennett Sr. heard those words, it was as if lightning had struck them. They stared in disbelief at the biological daughter they had treasured like a priceless 

jewel. 

“Maya! You… so it was you. You did all of it. Why would you do this? Why would you frame Evelyn?” 

Mrs. Bennett Sr.’s voice rose into a sharp, explosive scream. 

Even Mr. Bennett Sr., who had always been gentle, broke 

down. 

“Maya Cole! How were we not good enough to you? Why did 

you have to drive Evelyn to her death?” 

Cornered by them, Maya shook her head in terror. 

Tears once again spilled from her eyes. 

“No! Dad, Mom, you have it wrong. I’m the victim here. Evelyn must be framing me. Mom, I’m your biological daughter. How can you side with an outsider against me?” 

Maya played the victim and went on the offensive first, but 

Mrs. Bennett Sr. was so furious her head nearly exploded. 

Suddenly, she raised her hand and slapped Maya three times 

across the face. 

“Maya Cole! When have I ever mistreated you? These past three years, from the moment I learned who you were, when did I not spend money on you? I did so much for you. I even lied to Evelyn for you. Is this how you repay me?” 

Mr. Bennett Sr. stepped forward too and landed another heavy slap across the right side of Maya’s face. 

His voice rang deep and thunderous. 

“Maya Cole! If not for you, how could we have become estranged from Evelyn? Now… now you’re the one who killed 

her!” 

Mrs. Weston Sr. set down the crying baby and began slapping 

Maya again and again like a woman possessed. 

“You vicious little bitch! Evelyn was so good to me and so good to Gavin. It was all you. You destroyed this family! You destroyed my grandbaby! Give me back my grandbaby!” 

Maya’s miserable screams rang through the entire room. 

Yet among the doctors, nurses, and attorneys present, not one 

person shed a tear for her. 

Gavin stared at the woman in front of him with utter 

disappointment. 

Then he turned and walked out with the attorney.
