My Husband Accused My Family of Stealing His Mother’s Gift Chapter 09

My Husband Accused My Family of Stealing His Mother’s Gift Chapter 09

I took Tyler’s phone and looked down at the screen.

A post on a business forum filled the screen, its headline displayed in bold red type.

[PURCHASE-ORDER DISASTER AT MERCER INDUSTRIES: 50,000 UNITS ENTERED AS 5-IS THE CEO’S NEW WIFE A NEPOTISM HIRE?]

Several leaked internal screenshots had been attached to the post.

One showed an approved purchase order for critical manufacturing components. The quantity should have read 50,000 units, but Maya had entered only 5.

She had left off four zeros, creating a ten-thousand-fold discrepancy.

The comment section was already exploding.

[Is this assistant for real? Fifty thousand units became five. The supplier must have thought Mercer

Industries had lost its mind.]

[I heard she’s the CEO’s new wife. She got the job on her looks and doesn’t know the first thing

about the work.]

[Mercer Industries is finished if this is the kind of person they trust with a purchase order.]

[Poor Mr. Mercer. He had barely gotten divorced before marrying a complete disaster.]

I scrolled farther down and found an even more detailed account.

According to the post, Maya had not handled a single assignment properly since joining the

company.

She booked flights for the wrong dates.

She copied figures into the wrong rows of financial reports.

She mixed up shipping addresses when sending Thanksgiving gifts.

The time she sent Linda’s crab gift box to my parents and triggered that entire disaster had been

only one of countless mistakes.

When I was still involved with the company, I had caught most of those errors before they caused

any real damage.

After I left, no one was there to clean up after her, and every hidden problem came crashing down at

once.

The supplier had processed the purchase order exactly as written and shipped only five units.

By the time anyone caught the mistake, Mercer Industries’ production line had already been idle for three days, and the resulting rush charges and contractual penalties had added another massive

loss.

Adrian had reportedly smashed things in his office and screamed at Maya..

But Maya was famous for being a gorgeous airhead.

Whenever something went wrong, all she could do was cry. Tears would roll down her cheeks as she

stared at Adrian with red-rimmed eyes, looking helpless and unable to say a word.

When Adrian yelled at her, she cried.

When he demanded to know how she planned to fix the problem, she cried even harder.

When he threatened to fire her, she clung to his arm and sobbed, “Adrian, I’m sorry. I’ll never do it

again.”

Adrian was at his wits’ end. They had been married for only a few months, and he was already

talking about divorcing her.

Internet sleuths had pieced together the entire story.

Adrian had divorced his first wife for his young assistant.

Then he married a woman who was nothing but a pretty face. The moment she stepped into the

role, her incompetence nearly ran the company into the ground.

Dozens of people tagged me on X beneath the post, all saying the same thing.

[His ex-wife got out just in time.)

I finished reading, handed the phone back to Tyler, and returned to making the hand pies.

Tyler leaned closer and asked cautiously, “Sienna, are you okay?”

“I’m fine.”

I picked up the rolling pin and rolled another piece of dough into a thin circle.

“It has nothing to do with me anymore.”

That was what I said, but my hands still slowed.

How could it have nothing to do with me?

Adrian and I had founded Mercer Industries together.

We had just gotten married when we rented a tiny office. I handled the finances, human resources, and daily operations, while he chased leads and negotiated with clients.

At our poorest, we shared a single cup of instant ramen.

As the company gradually grew, I stepped away from the public side of the business. I managed our home and occasionally went into the office to make sure everything was running properly.

Adrian told me I did not need to work myself to exhaustion. He said I should stay home and enjoy

the life we had built.

I believed him.

I thought he was trying to take care of me.

Looking back, he had simply decided that I no longer needed a visible role in the company.

As soon as the divorce was finalized, I cashed out my entire ownership stake and walked away. Not a single share remained in my name.

Years of work became nothing more than a string of numbers in my bank account.

Even so, watching the company I had helped build from the ground up being ruined by someone who could not even enter a purchase quantity correctly still left a bitter knot in my chest.

My phone suddenly vibrated.

I picked it up and saw a WhatsApp message from Adrian.

Adrian: [Sienna, can we meet? It’s about the company]

I stared at the message for a long time.

It had been a long time since Adrian had spoken to me so calmly.

Whenever he contacted me in the past, he either issued an order or demanded an explanation. He

never asked for anything as though I had the right to refuse.

He had run out of options.

The company was facing a crisis, Maya was useless, and no one else around him knew how to clean

up the mess.

After thinking for a moment, I typed a reply.

I replied: [Okay. Tomorrow at three.]
