My Housekeeper Tried to Replace Me with Her Daughter Chapter 05

My Housekeeper Tried to Replace Me with Her Daughter Chapter 05

My blood ran cold.

“Sit tight, Ms. Whitaker. I’m on my way.”

I hung up, excused myself from the meeting, and drove straight home.

The second I walked in, there was Marlene, sprawled across my living room couch. The fruit bowl on the coffee table was full of the expensive fruit I’d asked Ms. Whitaker to pick up that morning

A younger version of Marlene sat beside her.

It was her daughter, Tessa Holloway.

Marlene looked up, spat a grape seed onto the plate, and didn’t bother standing.

“Oh, good, Vivienne. Perfect timing.”

“Pack your stuff and get out. And clear your things out of the bedroom. My daughter’s moving in.”

I stared at her.

“Have you lost your mind? This is my house.”

She laughed like she owned the place.

“Not for long. Once Mr. Ashford divorces you, this place belongs to my daughter and Everett. And

you’re not getting a dime.”

She crossed her legs and looked around the living room.

The way her eyes moved over the room, she was already redecorating it in her head.

I could barely process what I was hearing.

“This is absurd. Why would my husband divorce me?”

“You’re trespassing. Get out of my house.”

I pulled out my phone like I was about to call the cops.

Tessa stood up slowly.

Her cheeks were flushed, too flushed, like the embarrassment was part of the performance.

“Vivienne, I understand this is hard. I mean, a man like Everett, of course you wouldn’t want to give that up.”

“But you’ve been married all this time, and what have you done? You spend his money, you live your life, and you haven’t even started a family with him. Don’t you think that’s a little… selfish?”

kept my face blank and looked at this girl, barely out of college.

I’d thought a college degree might make her different from her mother.

Clearly not.

“What are you trying to say?”

Tessa dropped her eyes. “Last month, Everett had too much to drink, and we…”

“We spent the night together. And now… I’m pregnant. It’s his.”

“For the baby’s sake, please. Just let him go. Give him the divorce.”

Her voice cracked, and the tears came right on cue.

Marlene pulled her daughter back down, then turned and glared at me.

“You heard her! My daughter is carrying an Ashford baby, his only child!”

“You need to walk out that door today with nothing!”

“This house, his money. All of it belongs to my daughter and my grandchild now!”

I almost wanted to applaud.

So that was the game. What a piece of work.

I didn’t waste another word on them. I picked up my phone and called Everett.
