My Friends and My Bully Chapter 08

Chapter 8: Family Ties

*Roman*

To my complete and utter surprise, Robert leaped at me, and before I knew what

was going on, he had his arm around me so tight that I was choking. I tried to push

his arm away from my neck, but because he got me by surprise, it was really hard

for me to get free of his chokehold.

“Why the hell would you say that about my sister, dude?” Robert snarled in my ear.

“She’s my fucking sister. Don’t ever say something like that again.”

At this point, my head was starting to become dizzy, and black spots danced across

my vision. I needed oxygen before I passed out. Using all the remaining strength I

had, I stomped on Robert’s foot, hoping that this would be enough for him to loosen

his grip around me so I could get away from him.

“Shit, man!” I screamed once I felt him loosen his arm from around me. “I was just

joking.”

I pushed him away and took a deep breath, gasping as air rushed into my lungs.

Once I was no longer seeing black spots, I backed away from Robert because he was

still looking at me with a murderous expression. When I was out of reach from him,

Robert angrily turned to Caleb and Aaron.

“Don’t you two dare try and sleep with my sister,” Robert growled at Caleb and Aaron as he pointed a threatening finger at them. His expression was now even

more murderous than when he had been looking at me. “She’s off limits.”

“Chill out, dude,” Caleb said, looking slightly alarmed, backing away before Robert

could put him in a chokehold too.

“We didn’t even say anything,” Aaron added as he also backed away from Robert.

Both of the Alpha sons were holding up their hands in front of them, trying to show

Robert that they meant no harm.

“Yeah, we didn’t even know she was your sister until today. I’ve barely ever said

two words to the girl,” Caleb added.

“I haven’t spoken to her either,” Aaron stated. “Roman was just joking, man. It’s what we do. All of us just give each other a hard time.” Aaron gestured around to

our group.

He was right. But I guess I could understand Robert. Family was normally a

sensitive topic.

Robert stared at Aaron for a moment, with the same crazy expression he had been wearing. He still had that insane look in his eyes, breathing deeply, and for a

moment I wondered if this would turn into a deadly fight.

If it did, I was going to have to call over my dad, who was still on the training field, so that no one would get seriously injured. After another moment of staring as all down, Robert shook his head, a look of realization crossing his face.

I bet he had honestly forgotten who we were for a little bit there. He wouldn’t have put me in a chokehold if he remembered the time I saved him from drowning in the lake behind my house when we were eight. Robert wouldn’t have turned on Caleb so intensely if he was thinking about when he took the blame for breaking Luna Sophie’s favorite expensive vase when it had been Robert.

He wouldn’t have turned on Aaron so fast if we reminded him about the time Aaron let him cheat off his history final exam in eighth grade. Robert’s worst subject was history, and if he didn’t pass that exam, he would have been held back. Aaron helped him study and made sure to sit next to him during the test so Robert could look at his answer sheet when he didn’t know an answer.

The five of us were all really close. We had grown up together. Because of this, you would think that we would have recognized Anna, but she was never around him,

we never hung out at Robert’s house, and he never even spoke of her Than was

why his outburst was so out of left field.

Once Robert seemed calmer, I approached him with my hands up to show hum I didn’t want to fight. Tm sorry for speaking that way about your sister man. It was uncool I just assumed you wouldn’t care. I had never seen you guys get even close

to each other. Why are you being like this now?”

“Dude, it’s my sister. It doesn’t matter if we’re close or not she’s still my sister And I know you guys well enough, don’t I? Robert said with narrowed eyes, then he sighed. “I’m sorry for attacking you though.” he told me. “And I’m sorry for yelling at you guys,” Robert said to Caleb and Aaron. “You guys are like my brothers, bur

Anna is my sister. I’m protective of her.”

The four of us all stared at Robert.

“Holy shit, man,” Declan mused. “That’s the most I think I’ve ever heard you say.”

My brother’s comment broke the tension, and all of us laughed. The weird vibe of the group had passed, and all of us walked off the training field as other pairs of girls

did their demonstrations.

I was still kind of annoyed about Robert attacking me, but I could understand where he was coming from. The other guys were like family, but I would choose my actual brother over any of them. Blood was definitely thicker than water, even with shifters, even within our own pack. That was just the way things worked

I noticed Caleb and Aaron looking back at Anna with interest despite what had just happened with Robert. I couldn’t help but look back at Hazel. She was definitely a

pretty she–wolf.

As we walked away from the training ground, I knew one thing for sure.

These two girls were definitely going to stir things up around here.

The next day at school, I studied Anna for the first time ever. I noticed that she and Hazel had become fast friends. Hazel was clinging to Robert’s sister like a bad cold. To my utter shock, Anna was taking most of the same advanced classes as the guys and I were. Until today, I had no idea that she had been sitting quietly in the corner

of most of my classes this whole time.

The whole day, I tried to get Anna’s attention, but she stayed focused in class and wouldn’t meet my eyes. I needed to make sure she accepted coming to the party and

took Hazel with her.

As we were walking out of school, I knew this was the last chance to make sure Hazel was coming to the party, even if it was through Anna.

But when I finally met them outside, Hazel was talking to the girl we hated the

most. Piper.

The atmosphere was definitely not friendly, and I could tell they weren’t having a nice conversation, but this was the only opportunity I’d had the entire day. There was no way I’d lose that chance.

Taking a deep breath, I straightened my shoulders and took the initiative, walking

over to talk to Anna.
