My Four Beast King Fathers Chose Her Over Me Chapter 11

My Four Beast King Fathers Chose Her Over Me Chapter 11

I bent my knees, ready to leap.

A familiar voice came from behind me.

“Nyssa, don’t!”

I turned. The four fathers stood there.

Every one of them drenched in blood, faces wrenched with terror.

They begged me not to jump.

“Nyssa, we know everything now. We were wrong. We misjudged you.”

“Don’t do this. First Dad will grant your mother the title of bonded mate. The honor she always deserved.”

“Nyssa, please don’t jump. We’ll set it right. We swear it.”

I looked at their anguished faces.

I heard their desperate pleas.

I smiled softly and said, “Too late.”

Then I jumped, without a second’s hesitation.

The wall was high.

But the fall lasted only a moment.

I saw the four fathers hurl themselves after me, only for the guards who rushed in to hold them back.

Goodbye.

When I opened my eyes again, everything was bright.

I sat up slowly, wondering whether I’d truly died this time, when the door opened.

A woman with short hair and strange clothes stepped in.

The instant she saw me, tears spilled down her face. She whispered, “Nyssa.”

That single word. I knew.

She was my mother.

We clung to each other and wept for a long time.

Once we’d calmed, Mother told me this was the modern world.

And that the four fathers were characters in a story.

She said a great many things I didn’t understand.

But it didn’t matter. She had all the time in the world to teach me.

Mother’s name was Aurelia.

She told me she ran a small business and had a bit of money.

She’d originally entered that world on a mission to save her family.

The mission had failed.

But her family had pulled through on their own.

At the time, she’d asked the guardian spirit.

So long as we both died, we could return together.

She’d reasoned that if she died, I wouldn’t survive either.

What she’d never expected was that Third Dad’s healing would be strong enough to keep me alive.

Later, she hired a tutor to teach me about this world.

After a few months, I started high school and finally found my footing.

In this world, males and females stood as equals.

Mom was gentle. My classmates treated me with respect.

For the first time, I felt a warmth I’d never known.

Then the guardian spirit found me again.

It said my death had broken something in the four fathers.

They’d gone completely dark. Their rage was tearing that world apart, turning it into a living hell.

It wanted me to go back and see them.

“They’re only characters in a story, but the people of that world are real, and they’re suffering. The four of them know they were wrong. They want to make it up to you. Will you go back?”

The spirit pleaded, telling me how the people there suffered under the fathers’ madness.

Telling me they truly regretted it all. That this time they’d treat me right.

When I hesitated, the spirit pressed harder.

“Nyssa, you don’t belong in this world. You’re only making life harder for your mom. She had someone who loved her, but after you turned up, they had a terrible fight. She’s not young anymore. Can you really bear to watch her grow old alone? Just go back. Please.”

I froze.

I’d never known Mom had lost her chance at love because of me.

Just as I wavered, a voice cut through the quiet.

“Fine. We’ll go back.”

I looked up. Mom sat beside me, smiling coldly. “I’m going with her.”

With the spirit’s help, we returned to that world in no time.

The four fathers were waiting in the halls where I used to live. Every one of them looked wretched.

The instant the doors opened, all four rose to their feet.

When they saw me, the relief washing over their faces was overwhelming.

“Nyssa, you’re back.”

“You really came back? Nyssa, did you miss us?”

“We made your favorite honey cakes. And the swing you loved as a cub. It’s still there.”

They crowded in around me, talking over one another, beside themselves with joy.

Just as one of them reached out to hold me, an arm yanked me back.

Mom put herself between us, shielding me. “Don’t touch her.”

All four fathers went still.
