My Fiancé Took Her on Vacation Instead of Marrying Me? I Married WAY Better Chapter 10

The name was ripped from Ethan’s throat, and even he didn’t realize how much it trembled.

But behind the thick glass and the noisy crowd, no one heard him.

The private jet’s door was already shut, taxiing toward the runway. Ethan spun and sprinted for the

VIP lane.

“Sir, you can’t go through here-”

Security blocked him.

“Move!” He’d never lost it like this. Panic burned in his eyes. “I need to find someone!”

“I’m sorry, but that’s the private terminal. You don’t have clearance.”

“I said move!”

He shoved the guard aside. Another guard stepped up, firmer. “Sir, I need you to calm down, or we’ll have to call the police.”

Heads turned.

Mira rushed over and grabbed his arm. “Ethan, what’s wrong? Stop-everyone’s watching…”

“Let go!” He pulled away so hard she stumbled, her eyes instantly red.

But Ethan didn’t even see her. He was glued to the plane gliding farther down the runway, his chest so tight he could barely breathe.

Why her?

Why was she at the private terminal?

Who called her back to “the manor”?

And last night-that calm, certain look when she said, “You don’t get to marry me anymore.”

All the details he’d ignored came rushing back.

She never talked about her family. Just said things were complicated and left it at that. But her sharp business instincts, her familiarity with certain upper-crust rules-none of it fit a normal background. When the company was struggling, clients who’d been impossible to land suddenly

came around. Projects that should have gone elsewhere kept falling into his lap.

He’d always thought it was luck.

But what if it wasn’t?

A cold chill crept down his back.

His phone rang again. The assistant.

“Ethan, another problem. Mr. Brooks just canceled too. Says he wants to re-evaluate future cooperation. And back at the office, several core clients are demanding early contract reviews. Legal is drowning.”

Ethan gripped the phone, veins pulsing at his temple. “Got it.”

He hung up, but instead of dealing with business, he pulled up Serena’s chat like a man possessed.

At the top: his message from last night:

[Send me the files by 8 PM.]

No reply.

He called.

“Sorry, the number you’ve dialed is unavailable…”

He tried again. Same result.

A knot formed in his chest. He sent a message-and a notification appeared.

[Message was blocked by the recipient.]

She’d blocked him.

Not out of spite. Not as a cold war. She’d erased him completely.

Ethan stared at the notification, unable to breathe for a full five seconds.

Mira spoke carefully. “Ethan… maybe it was just someone who looked like her? There’s no way Serena could afford a private plane…”

He snapped his head toward her, eyes freezing cold.

She recoiled, shutting up immediately.

After a long silence, he spoke, each word measured and razor-sharp. “You better pray today has nothing to do with you.”

Mira turned pale, forcing a weak smile. “I… I don’t understand…”

Ethan ignored her. He turned back to the runway.

The jet accelerated, lifted off, and shot into the sky. In seconds, it vanished from sight/

And in that moment, it finally hit him.

Serena Wright was gone.

And she’d gone somewhere he could never reach-a world he’d never truly known.

The cabin door closed behind me, sealing out all the noise from outside.

I turned to head to the lounge-and saw someone already sitting in the cabin.

A man in a black tailored shirt, lounging with an easy posture, but the presence he gave off was anything but relaxed.

“Hello, fiancée.”

I stopped in my tracks and focused on his face.

Adrian Ashford.

The sole heir to the Ashford Group, the so-called heir apparent of The Sterling Circle-rumored to be ruthless-and the marriage pact my grandfather had arranged for me.

I took off my sunglasses and met his gaze evenly. “Mr. Ashford, if I’m not mistaken, this is the Wright family’s private jet.”

He closed the financial report in his hands and waved his phone. “Your grandfather asked me to pick you up. What, not happy to see me?”

I didn’t answer. I just sat down next to him.

After eight years of stubbornness and rebellion that left me this broken, I had no energy left to deal with a strange, overbearing man.

Adrian glanced at me. “Your eyes are red.”

I turned my head away. “Allergies.”

“Oh.”

He didn’t call me out. He just looked out the window.

After the plane took off, he spoke again. “There’s something your grandfather didn’t tell you, but I think you should know.”

My hand, holding a teacup, paused.

“Ethan Hale’s company-three years ago, he overexpanded, his cash flow broke, and he almost

went under. You remember that?”
