My Fiancé Saved Her Painful Days, But Forgot Mine Chapter 05

My Fiancé Saved Her Painful Days, But Forgot Mine Chapter 05

The group chat went silent for a full second.

Mitch’s aunt Helen was the first to respond.

[Shelly Carter, you have a terrible temper.]

[Mitch and Lynn grew up together. They’re practically brother and sister. Calling off a wedding because you’re jealous of an old friend is embarrassing.]

Mitch’s mother, Margaret, jumped in next.

[Exactly. The invitations have gone out, and everyone has made plans. Do you have any idea how humiliating this is for our family?]

[Lynn lost both her parents when she was young. Mitch looks after her because she has no one else. You’re supposed to be his fiancée. You should be helping, not acting like a jealous child.]

[Apologize to everyone and go through with the wedding. Then we can put this behind us.]

The rest of Mitch’s relatives piled on.

[Young people today are so selfish.]

[Mitch has a bright future. You’re lucky he wants to marry you. Don’t throw away a good thing.]

Before I could answer, my cousin Chloe dropped a voice message into the chat.

[Practically siblings? Please. Two grown adults with no blood relation hanging all over each other every day is not a sibling relationship.]

[You’re blaming the actual fiancee while defending the other woman.

The nerve of this family is unbelievable.]

[Shelly is right to cancel the wedding. Who would want to marry into

this mess?]

My uncle Ron joined in immediately

[Losing her parents does not give Lynn the right to chase someone

else’s fiance. If she needs male attention that badly, she can flirt with

the retirees at a senior center instead of going after a taken man.]

[And don’t tell Shelly she’s lucky. She’s the one dodging a bullet here.]

[Your whole family has spent years helping another woman bully her.

Every last one of you should be ashamed.]

The chat exploded

Both families started tearing into each other, and the messages came

so fast that I could barely read them.

Mitch finally called me again.

“Look at the mess you’ve caused.”

“The group chat is out of control.”

“I’m begging you, post something and clear this up.”

His voice softened as he tried to coax me.

“I know you’re hurt.”

“Once you’ve calmed down, I’ll take you to look at nicer places to live, all right?”

“But look at what your family is saying about Lynn.”

“Our family has protected her her whole life.”

“No one has ever spoken to her like this.”

“Now your relatives are calling her a homewrecker, and she tried to hurt herself a few minutes ago.”

I laughed coldly.

“Wasn’t I raised by a family that loved and protected me too?”

“Your relatives dragged me through the mud in that chat.”

“Did you defend me once?”

Mitch sighed and shifted into the patient tone he used whenever he thought I was being unreasonable.

“Shelly, you’re usually the level-headed one.”

“You know how fragile Lynn is and how badly she handles emotional stress.”

“Swallow your pride this once and apologize in the group.”

“Say the wedding pressure made you misread the situation.”

“That protects Lynn’s reputation and gives both families a way to move past this.”

“Then we’ll have the wedding as planned, and I promise I’ll make more time for you from now on.”

“Mitch Wilson, do you not understand plain English?” I asked.

“Everything I posted is true.”

“The wedding is off.”

“Lynn can take my place.”

“It works out perfectly for both of you.”

Mitch went silent for a moment.

“Marriage is not a game you walk away from every time you’re angry.”

“Stop threatening to cancel the wedding just to manipulate me.”

“You know I love you, and you’re the only woman I want to marry.”

“What do I have to do to prove that?”

He kept trying to calm me down until Lynn’s muffled sobs suddenly rose in the background.

“Mitch, I don’t want to live anymore.”

“How can they say those things about me?”

“I only depended on you because I trusted you.”

“I never meant to ruin your engagement.”

“Maybe I should just disappear and make everything right for Shelly.”

A chair crashed to the floor.

Mitch shouted in panic.

“Lynn!”

“What are you doing?”

“Put that down right now!”

The other end of the call dissolved into chaos.

After a long stretch of shouting and movement, Mitch came back to the phone, his voice worn thin.

“Shely, how much longer are you going to keep doing this?”

“Lynn nearly hurt herself because of this fight.”

“Are you still going to keep pushing?”

“Even if you don’t care about me, can’t you show a little compassion and think about what this is doing to everyone?”

“Her choices are not my responsibility,” I cut in.

“If you’re that worried about her, stay with her.”

“Do not use her threats to guilt me.”

“Shely!”

Anger broke through his voice, but he forced it back down.

“I don’t want to fight with you.”

“Go into that group chat and post a clarification right now.”

“This tantrum has gone far enough.”

“If anything serious happens to Lynn because of this, I will never forgive you.”
