My Fiancé Said I Was the Homewrecker Between Him and My BFF? Screw Them Both! Chapter 08

My Fiancé Said I Was the Homewrecker Between Him and My BFF? Screw Them Both! Chapter 08

Preston still didn’t give up.

He got my apartment address from somewhere, and after that, he was downstairs waiting for me every day when I got off work.

Some days he had flowers, and some days he had the pastries I used to love.

It was ridiculous.

He couldn’t have thought any of that canceled out what he’d done.

I kept walking past him.

He followed me to the door of the building, and the entry system stopped him there.

One night it rained, and he stood out in it calling my name.

My neighbor put her head out to see what was going on and asked if I wanted her to call the police.

I told her not to bother, and I shut the door and pulled the curtains closed.

All of that begging stayed outside the window.

After building management ran him off, he started texting me every day.

He used a different number each time, and for the first few weeks, it was all apologies.

Preston: [Serena, I was wrong. I’ve gone back over all of it, and I owe you an apology. I’ve handled the

Phoebe situation.]

Preston: [I gave her a sum of money, and whether she keeps that baby or not has nothing to do with me. I’ve cut her off completely. Believe me, this once.]

I sent back one line. Serena: [Wrong about what, exactly?]

He stumbled through a long reply that was the same material as always. He was too soft. It was an accident. He was thinking of me.

So I asked him something else: [Do you know why I left the country?]

He took a long time to answer.

Preston: [Because you’re angry with me.]

I looked at those words and found them ridiculous.

I sent: [Because I’d had enough, and I never want to see you again.]

After that, his texts changed.

He started listing the things he’d done, one item per message, and every one ended with an apology.

Preston: [I left you on our anniversary to take Phoebe to a prenatal appointment. I’m sorry.]

Preston: [I didn’t go with you to your surgery. I sent Phoebe to take you instead. I’m sorry.]

Preston: [The day your mom collapsed, you called more than twenty times, and I didn’t pick up. I’m sorry.]

Preston: [I let you wear a rented dress at your own wedding. I’m sorry.]

Preston: [I asked you to be a bridesmaid. I’m sorry.]

Preston: [I spent your money on Phoebe. I’m sorry.]

I sat at my desk and watched them come in one after another, and nothing in me moved.

His apologies and his guilt were cheap, and they didn’t do anything.

They only got on my nerves.
