My Fiance Married His Childhood Sweetheart Before Our Engagement Party Chapter 06

On the fourth night, I came out of the shower and found Olivia sitting on the couch, staring at her phone with a strange expression.

“You need to see this.”

She held the phone out to me.

Adrian had posted on Instagram.

It was the first post about me since his marriage.

He had dug up an old chat screenshot.

I remembered that night.

He had worked until two in the morning.

I had messaged him, [Are you hungry? I can go downstairs and get you a sandwich.]

He did not reply then.

Now he posted that screenshot with a single line.

[Eve, come home.]

The first comment was from Sophia.

[Adrian, what does this mean?]

He did not reply.

I stared at the screen for three seconds and was about to push the phone back.

Olivia stopped me.

“No, no, that’s not the point. Look lower. Sophia commented again.”

She scrolled.

Sophia had written another line.

[Didn’t you say she was nothing compared to me?]

Nothing compared to me.

Five words.

So that was what I had been in his mouth.

I saved his startup money.

I stayed up writing his business plans.

I paid his mortgage and car payments.

I bought vitamins for his mother.

In front of Sophia, all of that became five words.

Nothing compared to me.

Olivia watched my face change and asked softly, “Are you okay?”

I picked up my own phone and opened Instagram.

The account had been registered three years ago.

The profile photo was the picture Adrian and I took in Brooklyn.

I long-pressed the account settings and selected delete.

A confirmation message popped up.

[After deletion, all data will be unrecoverable. Continue?]

I tapped yes.

“I’m going to interview tomorrow.”

Olivia blinked.

“What interview?”

“The Silicon Valley offer I turned down three years ago. Product leadership trainee program.”

“After three years, they still want you?”

“The director messaged me on LinkedIn last month. He said they had hired several people over the years, but no one had been quite right. He asked if I’d be open to talking again.”

“Why didn’t you reply?”

“Because I hadn’t decided to leave yet.”

Olivia opened her mouth.

In the end, she swallowed whatever she wanted to say and only nodded.

“Then go.”

I turned my phone facedown on the coffee table.

With the screen down, no notification could reach me.

Three years was enough.
