My Fiancé Married Her On The Day I Went To Prison For Her Crime Chapter 01

Brittany Ashford, the one who used to be the Ashford heiress, killed someone in a hit-and-run at three in the morning.

My fiancé, who was supposed to marry me in three days, wanted me to take the fall.

I clutched my wedding dress, barely believing what I was hearing.

Derek Vance lit a cigarette, his face calm. “Brittany’s pregnant. It’s mine. She wouldn’t survive inside. But you? You can handle it.”

I slapped him across the face.

Derek and the Ashfords teamed up to commit perjury. No matter how many times I said I didn’t do it, no one believed me.

My mother Carolyn Ashford grabbed my hand, crying. “Sloane, just confess. You can’t destroy Brittany…”

Derek stood to the side, his voice flat. “It’s just one year. You do the time, I’ll make it up to you.”

I went to jail the same day Derek married Brittany.

When I got out, the Ashfords had already disowned me—their real daughter.

I went back to the BBQ shop my foster parents left me.

That evening, Derek’s car pulled up to my grill stand.

He stared at me, his tone sharp. “Why didn’t you ever call all these years? You still holding a grudge?”

I shook my head. “Nah. I’m over it.”

Then I looked down and kept grilling.

He walked over and grabbed my wrist. “This is what you’re doing with yourself, Sloane? You forgot your dreams?”

I looked at my scarred hands and gave a bitter smile. “You really don’t know who destroyed those dreams?”

I pulled my hand free and kept cooking.

His voice flared. “Sloane!”

I frowned. I didn’t get why he was angry.

Since I got out, I hadn’t bothered anyone. Not the Ashfords. Not him.

Why was he still pissed at me?

“Hey, check please.”

“Coming.”

I had Molly keep an eye on things, wiped my hands, and walked over. “That’ll be thirty-eight dollars. You can tap your card right here.”

After that table left, Derek came back. “Come home with me. What are you even doing here?”

I ignored him and went back to the grill.

“It’s been five years. You’re still not over it? You’re mad we asked you to take the fall for one year?”

I stopped moving.

One year?

I actually did five.

They didn’t even know how long I’d been locked up.

But I didn’t have the energy to care anymore. “Mr. Vance, are you done? Please don’t bother my customers.”

He lost it. He turned and yelled into the shop, “Everyone’s tab is on me. Get out. Now.”

A few people recognized him and whispered as they left.

Still as unreasonable as ever. Tonight’s business was ruined.

“Molly, you go ahead.”

She hesitated. “Sloane…”

“I’m fine. Go.”

I bent down and started packing up.

Derek stepped aside and made a call. “I found Sloane… Yeah, I’ll send you the location.”

Before I finished cleaning up, a black sedan pulled to the curb.

My brother Blake Ashford got out, his face cold, standing over me like he always did when he scolded me.

“Who do you think you’re disgusting with this act? You want the whole town to know an Ashford is slinging BBQ skewers? Get in the car. Now.”

I looked up and met his eyes.

Back then, I would’ve been scared. I would’ve lowered my head and said, “I’m sorry, Blake.”

Not anymore.

“Mr. Ashford, did you forget I’ve already been disowned?”

He blinked, then softened a little. “The jail time hurt the family’s image. If we didn’t announce the disownment, the company would’ve taken a hit.”

He sighed, lowering his voice. “Brittany’s felt guilty all these years. She misses you.”

I laughed out loud.

I couldn’t tell if he was that stupid or just pretending.

He believed everything Brittany said.

“I like my life the way it is. So please, both of you, leave.”

Blake’s face went hard again. “This place will ruin you.”

His eyes swept the shop. “Where are your foster parents?”

I froze.

They didn’t even know they were gone.

Before I went to prison, I got on my knees and begged them to take care of my foster parents. They swore to me. “Don’t worry. Keep your mouth shut, and nothing will happen to them.”

I believed them.

But my foster parents died my second year inside.

My eyes burned. “Get the hell out!”

Right then, a sweet voice came from behind me.

“Sloane!”

My whole body went stiff.

I’d never forget that voice.

Brittany Vance.
